PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chris Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pyyno Janis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Janis has chosen Rubber Johnny as his entrance music. Pyyno Janis told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Chris Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Pyyno Janis!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Tarja Halkonen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones misses with a head kick.

Janis shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Janis showed some decent athleticism there.
Janis winds up and cracks Jones with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Jones is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jones trying to control from the bottom.
Jones is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Janis scores with a couple of nice shots.
Jones wants to improve his position but Janis is controlling well.
Jones won't allow Janis to pass to mount.
Jones has hold of Janis's hands but Janis slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Janis seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Jones is looking for a sweep. Janis is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jones trying to control but Janis postures up.
Jones is positioning himself well to prevent Janis advancing to mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones tries to roll over but Janis keeps him under control.
The fighters are battling for position here. Jones manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Jones wants to sweep but no luck.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Jones can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Janis controls the pace.
Jones will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Janis chips away with some ground and pound.
Janis trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Janis has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Janis is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Jones keeping moving, preventing Janis from controlling successfully.

Despite being in the dominant position, Pyyno Janis just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Janis bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Jones manages to get back to half guard.

Jones actively working from the bottom here.
Janis is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Janis moves into full mount! Jones won't be happy about that!

I looks like Janis might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Jones is bucking up trying to escape but Janis cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Janis prevents Jones from getting the reversal.

Jones is looking to get to half guard.
Janis looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Janis is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Jones can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Janis tries to control but Jones wriggling away.
Janis pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Janis lands a big shot there that rocks Jones but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.


Jones is rocked!
Janis postures up and throws a massive shot that knocks Jones out cold! Two more strikes to his unconscious opponent for good luck and this one is all over! Janis goes absolutely crazy with his corner! Wow, you can see how much that win means to him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Pyyno Janis!
