Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Paul Rossinelli! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, James Johnson! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Johanna Lukiainen and Tarja Halkonen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rossinelli attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Rossinelli connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Rossinelli scores with a jab to the head.
Johnson wants to clinch. Johnson lands a lovely overhand right.
It looks like Paul Rossinelli has been cut. Johnson gets in close and instigates a clinch. Johnson is struggling to control the position. Johnson receives a warning from the referee for stalling. The crowd are getting on Johnson's back here. They're not happy about his lack of aggression in the clinch. Johnson lands a nice shot to the body. Rossinelli wants to break the clinch but can't.
Rossinelli working hard to break the clinch. Johnson jumps guard and drags Rossinelli to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Rossinelli prevents Johnson from getting back to his feet. Rossinelli throwing strikes but missing. Johnson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Rossinelli wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rossinelli looking to pass the guard. Johnson wants to stand and escape but Rossinelli is having none of it.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Johnson fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Rossinelli misses with the combination.
Rossinelli throws a right and a left that Johnson avoids nicely. Johnson lands a jab to the head.
Johnson misses with a jab, cross combination.
Good exchange - Johnson coming out on top. Rossinelli misses the shot to the body. Johnson looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Rossinelli! Rossinelli regains half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rossinelli is pressing down on Johnson's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Johnson wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Rossinelli's closed guard. He's half up but Rossinelli has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Rossinelli pivots and extends the arm, Johnson falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Rossinelli! Well done that man!
