Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Walt Potter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Knife (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Potter comes to the cage accompanied by Emalkay - When I Look At You. Jim Knife will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Walt Potter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jim Knife!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Alec Ball and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Potter cracks a nice hook into Knife's ribs.
Good exchange - Potter coming out on top.
Knife pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Knife ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Potter moves away.
Knife shoots in looking for a takedown. Potter tries to sprawl out of it but Knife keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Potter manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Knife misses with a takedown attempt - Potter sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Potter lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Knife at a distance.

Knife looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Potter is fending him off so far but Knife persists. Nope, Potter circles away and we're back to standing.
Walt Potter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim Knife.
Knife shoots for a double leg takedown but Potter sprawls well. He's pushed Knife's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Jim Knife seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Potter scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Knife looks to land a right hand but Potter moved out of range.
Knife looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Potter is fending him off so far but Knife persists. Nope, Potter circles away and we're back to standing.

Potter throws a series of punches but Knife moves out of range.
Potter tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Knife was well out of range. Poor timing from Potter.

Potter leaves Knife with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Some wild striking there from Potter.
Knife shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Potter as he avoids it easily.
Knife is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Knife showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Potter.
Knife has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

A swing and a miss from Knife.
Knife misses with a head kick.
Knife keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Potter lands a nice hook to Knife's body. Knife takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Potter lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Knife circles away quickly and effectively.
Knife tries for a takedown but Potter sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Potter lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Potter throws a right and a left that both miss.
Potter ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Potter scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Knife doesn't seem bothered though.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Potter goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Knife is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Potter.
Potter throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Knife is trying desperately to land a takedown but Potter is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Knife.

Potter thows a body shot but no joy.
Walt Potter is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Potter lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Knife backs up against the cage.
Potter displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Knife.

Potter works Knife's body with a nice hook.
Knife shoots in for a takedown but Potter shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Potter slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

and Knife counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Potter connects with a single shot there.
Knife misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Knife takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Potter lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with eachother but Knife might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Potter has got the better of the exchanges.

Knife uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Potter.

Knife shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Potter pinned against the cage. Potter gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Knife tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Potter swivels and escapes.

Potter is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Potter throws a combination. Knife tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Potter is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Potter is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Knife can do to turn this around?
Knife slows the pace down.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Knife postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Potter scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Knife takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Potter connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Potter bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Knife shoots in but Potter avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Potter lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
A looping hook to the body misses from Potter. Knife does a little dance to reset his feet.

Knife pulls out of a head kick attempt.

The fighters circling - Potter throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Potter gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Knife trying to control the position from guard on top but Potter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Knife throws a big right hand that misses.
Potter keeping moving, preventing Knife from controlling successfully.

Potter pushes Knife off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Potter cracks Knife with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Knife throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Knife shoots in for a takedown but Potter shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Walt Potter is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Potter swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Knife pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jim Knife has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Knife throws a hook to the side of Potter's head but Potter sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

And that's the end of the fight!
Walt Potter showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Potter, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
