PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vlad Rasputin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Hammer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hammer has chosen 9MM - Way Back Home as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Vlad Rasputin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tony Hammer!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Eliza Hachem and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Hammer.
Hammer tries to close the distance and clinch but Rasputin swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hammer looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Hammer throws a series of punches but Rasputin moves out of range.
Hammer keeps the fight on the outside.
Rasputin tries to clinch there but Hammer circles away.
Hammer swats away the attempt to clinch by Rasputin.

Hammer is trying to force a seperation but Rasputin has the dominant position.
Rasputin is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Hammer pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Hammer jumps into guard, dragging Rasputin to the mat.

Rasputin wants to control from the top but Hammer keeps moving.
Rasputin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hammer on the ground.

Rasputin's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Hammer takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Despite being in the dominant position, Tony Hammer just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Rasputin decides to pull guard.
Hammer has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Rasputin can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hammer controls the pace.

Rasputin is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Hammer jumps into side control!

Let's hope that Hammer has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Vlad Rasputin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tony Hammer.

Hammer has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Hammer holds on and takes a little breather.
Tony Hammer has got the better of the ground game so far.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hammer is on top in guard.
Hammer postures up and lands a big shot to Rasputin's brow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tony Hammer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Rasputin's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Rasputin jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hammer walks away with a smile on his face. Rasputin gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Hammer is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Rasputin looks calm but he's in trouble here. Hammer gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Rasputin is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Hammer lets go of the hold and Rasputin can pop his arm back in it's socket.
