Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Felipe Mendoza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Harper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ben Harper will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Felipe Mendoza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ben Harper!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Hugh Johnson and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendoza fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Harper avoids it really well and circles away.
Harper doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Mendoza counters with a takedown into side control.
Mendoza throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Mendoza throws an elbow but Harper slips to the side and avoids it well.
Harper tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mendoza wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Mendoza is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Harper is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Harper is looking to reverse the position.
Harper is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Mendoza asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Harper defending against the ground and pound.
Mendoza creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Harper sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Harper can do anything to dispel that myth.

Mendoza is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Harper has escaped the position, nice work there.

Harper really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mendoza. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Mendoza is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Harper to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Harper shrugs it off.

Mendoza has control of Harper's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Harper regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Harper is breathing heavily.

Mendoza is persistently looking for the submission but Harper is defending it well.

Mendoza is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Harper has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Mendoza has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Harper taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Mendoza doesn't care though - he's delighted!
