PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ronnie Echberg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Corey Butcher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Corey Butcher was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ronnie Echberg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Corey Butcher!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Butcher closes this distance looking for a takedown but Echberg circles away.
Echberg throws a body punch but Butcher moves out of range.
Echberg has a takedown stuffed.

Echberg closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Butcher is defending against the submission attempts here by Echberg.
Butcher is looking to escape.
Echberg looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Echberg lands with a punch from half guard.
Echberg is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Butcher looks gassed!

Echberg jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Butcher manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Echberg lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Butcher down.

Echberg wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Butcher, who protects the arm well.

Echberg tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Echberg tries to move to mount but Butcher blocks the move with his legs.

Butcher really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Echberg. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Echberg controls the position.
Butcher tries to buck Echberg off but Echberg is having none of it.

Echberg wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Butcher, who protects the arm well.

Echberg darts in and clinches Butcher up against the cage.
Butcher doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Echberg is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Butcher pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Butcher tries to break the clinch but Echberg is controlling the position.

Echberg has picked Butcher up - he's going for a ride! Echberg dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Echberg takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Echberg avoids the attempt from Butcher to control.

Butcher is looking to improve his position but Echberg isn't that keen on the idea.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Echberg wants to control the pace but Butcher is squirming around nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Echberg throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Echberg tries to clinch but Butcher is having none of it.

Echberg fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Butcher, pushing him back against the cage.
Echberg prevents a takedown attempt there.

Butcher decides to pull guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Echberg stays in close to Butcher's body and controls the position.

Echberg controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Butcher is breathing heavily.
Butcher wants to sweep but no luck.

Echberg trying to control the position from guard on top but Butcher is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Echberg not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Ronnie Echberg just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Echberg drives through with a takedown into guard.
Echberg controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Butcher controls Echberg momentarily but Echberg frees himself.
Echberg passes into half guard.
Echberg is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Butcher!

Butcher tries to hold on but Echberg postures up.
Echberg controlling from the full mount.
Echberg trying to control but Butcher is having none of it.

Echberg with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Echberg cracks Butcher with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Echberg has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Echberg is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Butcher can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Butcher wants to hold on but Echberg pushes him away.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Ronnie Echberg is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Echberg closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Butcher takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Echberg is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Echberg's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Echberg is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Butcher is looking to escape.

Echberg decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Echberg fails to pull guard.

Butcher is fighting off a takedown attempt but Echberg is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Butcher to the mat. Butcher regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Corey Butcher has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Echberg is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Butcher can do to turn this around?

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Echberg, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
