PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Raker Raif (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Battling Bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bob has chosen Ace of Base - Beautiful Life as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Raker Raif!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Battling Bob!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Matheus Silva and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bob shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Raif as he jumps to the side.
Bob avoids the body shot from Raif.
Bob closes this distance looking for a takedown but Raif circles away.
Raif misses with a looping right.
Raif looks to score with a jab to the body but Bob is just out of range.
Raif lands a slapping body shot.
Bob lands with a cross.

Bob shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Bob was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Bob unloads with some shots from mount but Raif bucks and avoids them well.

Bob is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Raif to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Raif shrugs it off.
Raif is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Bob has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Raif tries to hold on but Bob postures up.
Bob wants to control the pace but Raif is squirming around nicely.

Bob takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Raif in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Bob controlling from mount.
Raif manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Bob is pressing down on Raif's thigh, looking to free his foot. Raif is holding on for now.
Raif wants to get back to full guard but Bob has passed into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Raif really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Bob wants to control the pace but Raif is squirming around nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bob wants to finish this one by submission but Raif is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Bob.
Raif keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Bob sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Raif wants to hold on but Bob pushes him away.
Bob is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Raif can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Raif trying desperately to get to his feet.
Raif knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bob on the ground.
Raif wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Bob.
Bob trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Bob landing shots from mount.
Raif wants to hold on but Bob pushes him away.
Bob controlling his opponent.
Bob throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bob landing strikes from the mount.
Bob wants to control the pace but Raif is squirming around nicely.
Raif wants to control but Bob is having none of it.
Raif manages to control the position for a moment.
Raif is trying to escape the mount.
Bob breaks from Raif's wrist control and lands an elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Battling Bob dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Bob shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Raif as he jumps to the side.
Bob shoots for a double leg takedown but Raif sprawls well. He's pushed Bob's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Raif thows a left - swing and a miss!
Bob ducks under a wild hook from Raif.
Raif swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
No luck for Bob with that takedown attempt.
Raker Raif has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Battling Bob.
Bob tries to score a power double leg takedown but Raif sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bob somewhat.
Raif thuds his right hand into Bob's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Bob shoots in but Raif avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Raif punishes Bob's body with a nice straight punch.
Bob showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Raif.
Raif misses with a wild body shot.
A shot to the body from Bob misses
and Raif counters with a left to the body.
Bob throws the left hand but Raif avoids the punch easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bob dives in and grabs Raif's left leg, looking for a takedown. Raif pushes down on Bob's head and hops out.
Raif ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bob moves away.
A combination from Raif does no damage.
Bob is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Raif.
Raif throws a hook but Bob avoids it easily.
Danga de danga de dang - Raif scores with a four punch combination!


It looks like Battling Bob has been cut.
A decent looking cross lands there for Bob.
Raif takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Raif misses with a body shot.
Bob throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Bob dodges the punch combination from Raif.
Raif slips under a jab from Bob.

Bob gets a takedown into half guard.
Bob wants to take a breather but Raif is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bob is working for a submission of some sort.
Raif is trying to maintain the position but Bob is very close to passing his half guard.
Raif moves into full guard.
Bob looking to pass the guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bob accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bob throws a big right hand that misses.
Raif seems keen to control Bob's posture.
Raif is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Raif pushes Bob off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
A big right from Raif misses.
Raif misses with a two punch combination.
Bob with a nice cross.
Battling Bob seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Raif cracks a nice hook into Bob's ribs.
Bob keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Nice defenses there by Bob.
Raif swings for the body but Bob moves out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bob uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Raif.
Raif tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bob was well out of range. Poor timing from Raif.
Raif scores with a jab. Bob acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Bob tries to bum rush Raif with a series of wild strikes but Raif uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Raif swings for the body but Bob moves out of range.
Bob takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Raker Raif is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Bob lands a nice shot to the body.
Raif takes one on the chin but seems OK.
A big right from Raif misses.
Raif misses with an uppercut.
A left lands for Raif.
Raif fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Bob manages to avoid it.
Raif gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Raif takes a swing at Bob's ribcage but misses.

Bob feints and as Raif raises his hands in defense, Bob changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Raif utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Bob trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Raker Raif dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Battling Bob's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!


A big right from Bob misses.
A telegraphed right hand from Bob misses the target.
Bob misses with a takedown attempt - Raif sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Bob lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Raif rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bob moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Bob avoids the body shot from Raif.
Raif takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
A cross from Bob lands.
Raif displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bob.
Raif throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Raif ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bob moves away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bob scores with a nice right hand.
Bob fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Raker Raif has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Battling Bob.
Raif on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Raif misses the shot to the body.
Bob misses with a takedown attempt - Raif sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Raif missing with a left hand there. Bob was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Raif misses with a wild combination.
Raif takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
A looping hook to the body misses from Raif. Bob does a little dance to reset his feet.
Bob lands a head shot.
Raif misses with a series of wild punches.
Bob steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Raif.

Raif gets caught flat footed, as Bob shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Raif is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Bob wants to control from the top but Raif keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Raif looking for a sweep. Not yet Raif, not yet.
Raif not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Bob trying to control but Raif is working from the bottom.
Raif wants to stand but Bob is controlling the position.
Bob trying to control the position from guard on top but Raif is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Bob shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Raif is trying to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Raif wants to get back to his feet.
Raif has hold of Bob's hands but Bob slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Bob tries to pass the half guard into mount. Raif knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Raif is trying to get back to full guard.
Bob tries to pass to full mount but Raif defends it.
Bob prevents Raif from standing back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Raif tries to get to full guard but Bob has control of the leg.
Bob missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Bob frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Raif holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Bob tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bob tries to control but Raif wriggling away.
Bob avoids the attempt from Raif to control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Battling Bob comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Bob has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
