2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcos Diaz Barros! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Thiago Cunha and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ribeiro scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Diaz Barros throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land. Diaz Barros striking from the bottom but nothing landed.
Ribeiro wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Diaz Barros, who protects the arm well. Diaz Barros is looking to regain half guard here but Ribeiro keeps moving and retains side control. Diaz Barros dodges the ground and pound from Ribeiro. Ribeiro has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Ribeiro is putting a hurting on Diaz Barros here, landing some big shots from side control. Ribeiro tries to score with some ground and pound. Diaz Barros controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Diaz Barros tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ribeiro wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Ribeiro lands a nice forearm strike.
That's one minute gone in the round. Diaz Barros manages to get back to half guard. Ribeiro is trying to work for a kimura but Diaz Barros is defending well.
Diaz Barros actively working from the bottom here. Diaz Barros looking for submissions off his back. Diaz Barros looks gassed! Ribeiro is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Diaz Barros wants to improve his position but Ribeiro is controlling well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Diaz Barros on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Ribeiro takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Diaz Barros looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Ribeiro wants to lay and pray for a moment but Diaz Barros keeps working. Ribeiro is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Diaz Barros is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ribeiro controlling the action here. Ribeiro looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Ribeiro seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Diaz Barros is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
