Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chris Dubois! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Rua! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Seu Braga and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dubois moves in looking to clinch but Rua pushes him off. Dubois throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Dubois lands a left and a right that send Rua crashing to the mat, dazed. Dubois thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
It looks like Marcelo Rua has been cut. Dubois swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Dubois throws a series of punches but Rua moves out of range. Dubois misses with a two punch combination.
Rua moves into the clinch. Dubois is looking to break free of the clinch but Rua has double underhooks. Dubois tries to break free but Rua pushes him back against the cage. Dubois has had enough of the clinch but Rua keeps him there for the moment. Dubois is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Rua escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Rua circles away from the clinch attempt and Rua counters with a nice double leg into side control. Dubois won't be happy with that. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Rua trying to control the position but Dubois is working away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rua tries to score with some ground and pound. Dubois controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Rua is looking to take a break and control but Dubois is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Rua stands up and we're back to a striking position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Dubois fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Dubois throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Dubois lands with a nice combination. Rua backs away looking to recover. Dubois lands a left and a right that send Rua crashing to the mat, dazed. Dubois thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Rua is rocked! A combination from Dubois does no damage. Rua is still on wobbly legs! Can Dubois finish him? Dubois misses with the combination.
Rua seems to have recovered his senses. Dubois connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Rua tumbling to the canvas! Dubois pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Rua was done - good stoppage!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Chris Dubois!
