Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tony Sparks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tony Sparks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, James Carter!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Nard Betker and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sparks.
Sparks cracks Carter with a right hand to the side of the head.


It looks like James Carter has been cut.
Sparks dodges the punch combination from Carter.
Carter misses with a double jab.
Some wild striking there from Carter.

Sparks lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Carter sprawling to the canvas. Sparks follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Carter hang on?

Sparks is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Carter is just riding it out for now. Sparks eventually gives up the hold.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Sparks connects with a nice short shot to Carter's temple.
Sparks throws a strike but Carter avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Carter wants to sweep here but Sparks controlling him for the moment.
Sparks chips away with some ground and pound.
Carter tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Carter is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Carter looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Sparks has picked Carter up and slammed him! Carter can't keep hold of the triangle and Sparks manages to pass to side control!

Sparks goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Carter rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Sparks's guard! Nice work there by Carter!

Sparks working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Carter doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Carter manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Carter must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Sparks can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Carter controls the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sparks is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Carter defends well.

Carter wants to control from the top but Sparks keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Sparks had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Carter defends it easily.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Carter will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Sparks throws a nice looking combination but Carter bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

and Sparks counters with a lovely shot to the body.
James Carter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Carter with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Sparks to score with a decent uppercut.

Sparks drops Carter with a left and a right! Oh, Carter is hurt - Sparks dives into side control looking to finish!
