Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yuuki Gou and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
hale's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and hale duly obliges.

von Helvete is desperately trying to improve his position but hale has a good base and remains in mount.
von Helvete is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
von Helvete is trying to escape the mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
von Helvete tries to lock up and control but hale gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
von Helvete can't escape the position.
hale looking for a guillotine from mount but von Helvete is having none of it.

hale takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
hale looking for a guillotine here but von Helvete defends easily.

von Helvete postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! hale is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of von Helvete, into his guard.
hale is pushing down on von Helvete's leg trying to pass to half guard. von Helvete is fighting to maintain full guard but hale has managed to sneak the leg through.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with hale in particular looking to stall.

Hubert von Helvete seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

von Helvete is working for takedown but hale is calmly controlling the position for now.

von Helvete drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but hale manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now von Helvete has hale in his guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
hale shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. hale showed some decent athleticism there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
von Helvete tries to roll over but hale keeps him under control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
von Helvete shoots and misses
and hale counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by hale.
hale prevents von Helvete from breaking the clinch.
hale gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, von Helvete regains guard.
von Helvete bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in hale's guard.
hale looking to hit a scissor sweep but von Helvete is one step ahead there.

hale has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but von Helvete has passed into side control.
von Helvete has hold of hale's arm. He's looking for a kimura. hale seems comfortable defending it but von Helvete has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! hale is real pain and he's forced to tap out! hale is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but von Helvete couldn't care less - he's delighted!
