PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jonny Chapman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Rob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jonny Chapman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mike Rob!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Paul Aken and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chapman closes the distance and clinches.

Rob's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Rob looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Chapman shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Rob is trying to defend but Chapman finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Chapman moves into full mount! Rob won't be happy about that!

Chapman stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Chapman closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Rob to the mat! Rob manages to get full guard.

Chapman drops back looking for a leg! Rob is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Rob manages to kick Chapman off! Chapman jumps back into Rob's guard.
Chapman wants to stand but Rob is controlling his posture from full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rob wants to stand and escape but Chapman is having none of it.
Rob has a closed guard, preventing Chapman from standing up.

Chapman drops back looking for a leg! Rob is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Rob manages to kick Chapman off! Chapman jumps back into Rob's guard.

Chapman thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Chapman is breathing heavily.

Rob is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Chapman is aware though and is defending well.

Chapman gets to his feet. Rob looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Chapman shoots and misses

and Rob counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Chapman's guard now.
Rob trying to control the position from guard on top but Chapman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rob is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Chapman looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Chapman has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Rob is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Chapman.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Chapman is trying to get back to his feet.
Rob trying to control the action but Chapman is working from the bottom.

Chapman seems a little lost for a moment, as Rob dominates the positioning.
Rob wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chapman keeps working.
Rob is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Rob wants to control but Chapman is keeping him busy.
Rob prevents Chapman from escaping the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Chapman fails with an attempt to clinch.

and Rob decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Chapman's guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Rob dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Chapman scores with a takedown into Rob's guard.

Chapman is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Chapman drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Chapman jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Rob has his foot on Chapman's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Chapman works his way back into a safe position though.

Chapman is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rob feints and as Chapman raises his hands in defense, Rob changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Chapman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rob defends it easily.

Rob trying to control the position from guard on top but Chapman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Rob got a little sloppy there for a moment and Chapman has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rob has managed to get both his arms back between Chapman's legs - danger averted.

Chapman throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Rob escapes and throws Chapman's legs to the side, diving into side control!
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Rob lands an elbow.

Rob tries to advance to mount but Chapman denies him.
Chapman tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rob wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Rob controls the position.
Chapman is working to avoid the ground and pound but Rob connects with a decent elbow.
Mike Rob has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rob trying to control the action but Chapman is working from the bottom.
Rob is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Rob tries for a takedown but Chapman circles away easily

so Chapman counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Chapman wanted to stand there but Rob had control of the position.
Rob wants to stand but Chapman is controlling the position.

Chapman drops back looking for a leg! Rob is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Rob manages to kick Chapman off! Chapman jumps back into Rob's guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Rob tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Chapman is desperately trying to improve his position but Rob has a good base and remains in mount.

Chapman is trying to get to the ropes to help him get back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Mike Rob comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Rob has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
