Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Julio Malmsteen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chris Sanchez! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Alexandre Firmino and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sanchez shoots in for a double leg but Malmsteen sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Malmsteen shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Malmsteen throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Malmsteen throwing shots but Sanchez is blocking nicely. Sanchez looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Malmsteen is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Malmsteen is looking to take a break and control but Sanchez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Malmsteen doesn't succeed with the takedown and Sanchez counters with a nice double leg into side control. Malmsteen won't be happy with that. Malmsteen throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land. Sanchez is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Malmsteen is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Sanchez is trying to get an arm triangle but Malmsteen is defending well. Sanchez looks gassed! Sanchez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Malmsteen has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sanchez has managed to get both his arms back between Malmsteen's legs - danger averted. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Malmsteen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sanchez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Sanchez thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Sanchez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Malmsteen is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sanchez defends well. Sanchez drops back looking for a leg! Malmsteen is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Malmsteen manages to kick Sanchez off! Sanchez jumps back into Malmsteen's guard. Sanchez trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Sanchez with a flurry of punches that miss. Malmsteen is trying to control the position but Sanchez postures up. Sanchez looking to pass the guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sanchez postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Malmsteen is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Sanchez, into his guard. Malmsteen in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Malmsteen gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Sanchez gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Malmsteen to score an easy takedown into full guard. Sanchez striking off his back but it's not causing Malmsteen any problems. Sanchez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Malmsteen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Malmsteen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Malmsteen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Malmsteen is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Sanchez has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Malmsteen is looking to defend but Sanchez has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Malmsteen! Sanchez pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Malmsteen taps out and this one is all over!
