The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Sherdog wants to control but Johnson postures up. Johnson is trying to get an arm triangle but Sherdog is defending well. Sherdog tries to improve position but can't. Sherdog regains half guard. Johnson wants to pass the guard but Sherdog is defending well. Johnson tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Johnson not landing any meaningful shots this time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Johnson has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Sherdog manages to avoid the submission attempt. Sherdog tries to get back to half guard but can't. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Johnson stands up and beckons Sherdog to his feet. Johnson throws a head kick that misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Sherdog shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Johnson connecting with a few gentle strikes. Johnson wants to control but Sherdog is keeping busy and won't allow it. Sherdog is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Johnson reverses the position - he's now on top in Sherdog's guard. Sherdog looking to control.
Johnson is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Sherdog trying to control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sherdog working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Johnson. Johnson drops back looking for a leg! Sherdog is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sherdog manages to kick Johnson off! Johnson jumps back into Sherdog's guard. Sherdog keeping full guard, as Johnson tries to pass.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Sherdog looking for a guillotine here but Johnson defends easily.
Sherdog is breathing heavily. Sherdog is adopting a defensive guard.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Johnson with a poor takedown and Sherdog decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Johnson's guard. Sherdog is sitting in close to Johnson's body. Johnson has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Sherdog is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Sherdog is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Johnson.
