PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Quack Smack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Blatz Beer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Quack Smack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Blatz Beer!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beer tries to close the distance and clinch but Smack swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Beer moves in looking to clinch but Smack pushes him off.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Smack.
You can see the frustration on Beer's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Smack looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smack trying to control the action but Beer is working from the bottom.
Beer manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smack wants to improve his position but Beer is controlling well.
Beer is taking a breather. Smack says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Smack actively working from the bottom here.
Smack wants to control but Beer is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Smack is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Smack trying to control from the bottom.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Beer not doing much here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Beer tries a head kick but it misses.
Beer throws a nice head kick!


It looks like Quack Smack has been cut.
Beer drops Smack with a beautiful combination! Smack stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Beer is looking for the KO!


Smack is rocked!
Beer wants to clinch.
Oh Smack is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
No luck for Smack with that takedown attempt.
Smack is breathing heavily.
Beer is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Smack seems to have got his legs back now.
Beer pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Beer is looking to clinch.

Smack shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Beer tries to hold on but Smack pushes him away.
Smack trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Beer is trying to stand.

Beer can't escape the position.
Smack unloading with bombs!

Smack breaks from Beer's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Beer prevents Smack from taking his back.
Beer wants to hold on but Smack pushes him away.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
You get the feeling that Beer really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Smack with a couple of short strikes.
Beer can't escape the position.
Beer regains half guard.
Beer gets full guard.

Beer pushes Smack off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Blatz Beer is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A big right from Beer misses.
A combination from Beer does no damage.
Smack tries to clinch up.
Smack avoids a punch combination nicely.
Beer blocks a head kick by Smack.
Beer wants to clinch up but Smack keeps it at a distance.

Smack shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Beer's guard.
Smack tries to free his leg and advance position but Beer is retaining full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smack looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Smack drops back looking for a leg! Beer is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Beer manages to kick Smack off! Smack jumps back into Beer's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Blatz Beer will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Quack Smack's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A head kick misses from Beer.

Smack shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Smack was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Smack throws some wild stikes that Beer manages to avoid easily.
Smack lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Smack looking for a guillotine from mount but Beer is having none of it.
Beer's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Beer tries to hold on but Smack pushes him away.
Beer is breathing heavily.

Beer is in a horrible position here. Smack smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Beer is looking to get to half guard.

Smack is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Smack lands a big elbow.
Beer wants to control but Smack is having none of it.
Smack has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Smack lands a heavy elbow.


Beer is rocked!


It looks like Blatz Beer has been cut.
Smack is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Smack controlling from mount.
Quack Smack overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Smack lands a big shot there that rocks Beer but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Smack is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Beer has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Beer is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Smack looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Beer manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Beer avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Smack.

Smack is working for a submission of some sort.

Smack passes to side control.
Beer is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Smack fails to land a wild elbow strike.
You can see the frustration on Beer's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Beer might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Smack kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Beer is pushing Smack's head away, looking to escape. Smack manages to hold on to the position though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Beer misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Smack misses the shot to the body.

Smack scores a takedown into full mount!
Smack scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Smack working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Smack lands a big shot there that rocks Beer but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Smack has control of Beer's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Beer regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Smack tries to control but Beer wriggling away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Beer is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Quack Smack dominated that second round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Beer wants to stand but Smack is controlling the position.
Smack stays in close to Beer's body and controls the position.

Beer scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Beer closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Beer unloads a knee to the mid-section. Smack lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Smack prevents Beer from breaking the clinch.
Beer misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Smack.
Smack is trying to break free.
Smack looking for a takedown.
Beer landing some nice looking knees to the body.

Beer manages to break the clinch.
Smack shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Beer pinned against the cage. Beer gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Smack shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Quack Smack. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Smack changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Beer looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Smack throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Smack prevents Beer from escaping the position.
Beer is not content to let Smack control the position.
Beer struggling a bit here.
Beer is looking for a sweep.
Smack wants to lay and pray for a moment but Beer keeps working.
Beer takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Smack thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Beer tries to bum rush Smack with a series of wild strikes but Smack uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Beer is looking to clinch.
Quack Smack is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Beer instigates a clinch.
Smack is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Beer landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

Beer breaks the clinch.
Beer misses with a head kick.
Beer wants to clinch up but Smack keeps it at a distance.
Beer throws a right and a left that both miss.
Beer fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Smack manages to avoid it.
Beer wants to clinch up but Smack keeps it at a distance.
Beer tries to clinch there but Smack circles away.

Smack gets a takedown into half guard.
Well, if Smack is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Smack is pressing down on Beer's thigh, looking to free his foot. Beer is holding on for now.

Smack is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Smack controlling the pace.
Beer is not content to let Smack control the position.
Beer is trying to control but can't.
Smack trying to mount his opponent but Beer defends it.
Beer regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Smack.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Smack throws a big right hand that misses.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Beer closes the distance looking to clinch

and Smack counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Beer!
Smack wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Smack unloading with bombs!
Beer is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Smack throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Beer wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Quack Smack.
I think Smack has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
