Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jordan Jones! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, John Wayne! The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Fedor Mirinova and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fighters circling - Wayne throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Wayne keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Jones dodges the punch combination from Wayne.
Wayne gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Jones jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Wayne walks away with a smile on his face. Jones gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Jones looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Wayne is fending him off so far but Jones persists. Nope, Wayne circles away and we're back to standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jordan Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him. Jones showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Wayne.
Jones shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Wayne pinned against the cage. Wayne gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jones closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Wayne did well to prevent Jones getting side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Wayne! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jones swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Wayne is now in Jones's guard. A big mistake from Jones there, giving up the dominant position! Jones wants to sweep here but Wayne controlling him for the moment. Wayne controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Jones is trying to hold Wayne in close to prevent damage but Wayne has managed to pass into half guard.
Wayne stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Jones shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Wayne as he jumps to the side. Wayne keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wayne scores with a jab to the body. Jones is breathing heavily. Wayne cracks Jones with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Jones looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Wayne finish him?
It looks like Jordan Jones has been cut. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Wayne lands with a big right hook that stumbles Jones - he's out on his feet here! Wayne follows up with another monster hook that separates Jones from consciousness! Jones falls, almost in slow motion to the canvas! Wayne stands and admires his work as the crowd go wild.
