Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jake Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Saoul Kayne!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Summer Carpenter and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kayne bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Smith wants to get back to his feet but Kayne drags him back down.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith is looking for a sweep.
Smith is trying to work for a sweep but Kayne has mounted him!

Kayne jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Smith is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Smith and Kayne has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Smith wants to get back to his feet but Kayne is dominant here and he's now got Smith's back!

Kayne is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Smith rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Kayne is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Kayne is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Kayne is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Smith is not content to let Kayne control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kayne prevents Smith from getting back to his feet.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Smith keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Kayne shoots in for a takedown but Smith shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kayne.

Kayne shoots in for a takedown but Smith shows good takedown defense.
Smith tries to close the distance and clinch but Kayne swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Smith tries to clinch up but Kayne circles away and keeps his distance.
Kayne avoids the head kick by Smith.

Smith lands a head kick. Kayne smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Kayne fails with the takedown.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Smith changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Saoul Kayne seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Smith gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Smith wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Kayne is working for a kimura but Smith is defending it quite comfortably.

Smith distracts Kayne with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Smith is working Kayne over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Smith has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Smith is in close to Kayne's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Smith throws a big right hand that misses.
Smith is looking to work some ground and pound but Kayne has wrist control.

Smith is working Kayne over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Kayne looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Smith has gone for a leg lock! Kayne slips out almost immediately though and dives into Smith's guard.
Kayne looking to sit in guard and control but Smith gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Kayne is looking for a triangle but Smith pushes his legs off easily.
Smith works over Kayne with some ground and pound from guard.

Smith loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Kayne escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smith gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Kayne has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smith can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Smith drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kayne looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kayne looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kayne!
Smith is trying to buck Kayne off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Saoul Kayne showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Smith throws a head kick that misses.
Kayne changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Smith tries to avoid it but Kayne manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Smith to the ground. Smith escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kayne tries to score a power double leg takedown but Smith sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kayne somewhat.
Smith tries to close the distance and clinch but Kayne swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Smith tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Smith scoring well with a low kick there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith misses with a two punch combination.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Smith lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kayne circles away quickly and effectively.
Jake Smith is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Smith swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Kayne avoids the head kick by Smith.
Kayne fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Jake Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Saoul Kayne.

Smith throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Kayne.
Kayne swats away the attempt to clinch by Smith.
Smith scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Smith is looking to improve his position but Kayne isn't that keen on the idea.

Kayne has control of Smith's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Smith regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Smith slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Kayne is keen to just control but Smith is a slippery customer.
