Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Flavio Shunsal! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marc Guifre! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Matheus Silva and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Guifre looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Shunsal! Shunsal bucks up and throws Guifre to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape! Shunsal misses with a body shot.
Shunsal misses with a takedown attempt and Guifre counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Shunsal is defending against the submission attempts here by Guifre.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Guifre is thwarting Shunsal's attempts to control the position. Shunsal is pressing down on Guifre's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Shunsal pushes Guifre off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Shunsal moves into the clinch successfully.
Shunsal tightens his grip and picks Guifre up, before dumping him to the ground. Guifre manages to land in guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Guifre looking for a guillotine here but Shunsal defends easily.
Guifre working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Shunsal doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Shunsal manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Shunsal tries to free his leg and advance position but Guifre is retaining full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Guifre escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Shunsal gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Shunsal trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Guifre has a closed guard, preventing Shunsal from standing up. Shunsal is breathing heavily. Guifre is looking for a triangle but Shunsal pushes his legs off easily.
Guifre wants to sweep here but Shunsal controlling him for the moment. Guifre has his foot on Shunsal's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shunsal works his way back into a safe position though. Guifre bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Shunsal's guard. Guifre works a leg free and moves into half guard. Guifre is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Shunsal is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
