The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Richards wants to clinch up but Smith keeps it at a distance.

Smith shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Richards knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
You get the feeling that Richards really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Smith trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Smith avoids the attempt from Richards to control.
Smith moves to his opponent's back but Richards bucks him off and ends up in guard. A bit of a disaster there for Smith.
Richards wants to stand but Smith has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Smith keeps the fight on the outside.

Richards moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.
Richards throws a right and a left that Smith avoids nicely.

Smith fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Richards sprawls well initially but Smith persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Smith thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Richards's head.

Richards is defending against the submission attempts here by Smith.

Smith is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Richards is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
