Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, German Herrera! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Koji Matsuda! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Skip Squint and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Matsuda swats away the attempt to clinch by Herrera. Herrera shoots in for a double leg but Matsuda sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Herrera fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Matsuda stuffs the takedown attempt from Herrera. Herrera gets slowly back to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for German Herrera. That's going to take a lot out of him. Matsuda closes the distance and clinches. Herrera can't get the takedown.
Herrera takes an elbow to the forehead.
It looks like German Herrera has been cut. Knees to the body from Matsuda.
Herrera is breathing heavily. Matsuda connects with a massive knee from the clinch and Herrera goes down! Matsuda jumps into full mount looking to finish!
Herrera is rocked! Herrera on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Herrera tries to get out of the position. Matsuda content just to control the position here. Oh Herrera is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Matsuda wants to control the pace but Herrera is squirming around nicely. Matsuda prevents Herrera from getting the reversal. Herrera seems to have got his legs back now. Herrera is squirming around, avoiding Matsuda's attempts to control the action.
That's one minute gone in the round. Herrera tries to get back to half guard but can't. Matsuda sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Herrera is looking to improve his position but Matsuda isn't that keen on the idea. Herrera is squirming around, avoiding Matsuda's attempts to control the action. Matsuda is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Despite being in the dominant position, Koji Matsuda just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. The fight moves into the clinch position. Herrera goes for a takedown attempt but Matsuda pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Matsuda is looking to clinch but Herrera is avoiding it.
Herrera shoots in but no luck this time. Herrera tries to keep at a distance but Matsuda has taken the fight into the clinch. Matsuda breaks the clinch.
Matsuda closes the distance and lands a one-two. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Matsuda rushes Herrera and presses him up against the cage. Matsuda with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Matsuda unloads a knee to the mid-section. Herrera lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh. Matsuda breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Matsuda throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Herrera feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Herrera trying to control the position from guard on top but Matsuda is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Herrera looking to pass the guard. Herrera sitting in guard, not really doing much.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Matsuda keeping full guard, as Herrera tries to pass. Herrera gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Nice sprawl there from Matsuda as Herrera shoots in. Matsuda clinches up against the cage. Matsuda lands an elbow inside. Matsuda with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Matsuda with a knee to the head.
Herrera fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Herrera has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Matsuda is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Matsuda lands an elbow just above Herrera 's eye. Herrera takes an elbow to the forehead. Herrera takes an elbow to the temple.
German Herrera's cut is getting worse. Matsuda has the Thai clinch. He lands a big knee to the head that stumbles Herrera - he's in trouble! Another big knee to the head from Matsuda, and another! Herrera is out on his feet - the ref jumps in to save him and ends the fight!
