PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Foreman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ren Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie has chosen Eminence Front by The Who as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, David Foreman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ren Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Dmitry Maklakov and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Foreman throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Foreman connects with a nice looking jab.
Foreman swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Foreman swinging wildly here.
Foreman misses with a hook.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie fails with a takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Foreman thows a left - swing and a miss!
Gracie swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Foreman counters with a series of strikes. Gracie will be more careful next time no doubt.
Gracie has his takedown stuffed
and Foreman counters with a two punch combo.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Foreman tries to score with a low kick but Gracie moves his leg out of the way.
Gracie fails with the takedown
and Foreman makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
David Foreman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ren Gracie.
Gracie shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Foreman counters with a nice body kick.

A telegraphed right hand from Foreman misses the target.
Foreman looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Gracie showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Foreman.
Foreman throws a leg kick which misses Gracie's front leg but catches the back leg as Gracie tries to avoid it.

Gracie avoids a punch combination nicely.
Gracie avoids the head kick by Foreman.
Foreman misses with a looping left.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Foreman dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Gracie is looking to clinch but Foreman is avoiding it.
Foreman lands a jab-cross combination.
Foreman throws a combination that misses

so Gracie counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Gracie works a leg free and moves into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Foreman wants to get back to his feet.

Foreman has one foot on Gracie's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
A combination from Foreman does no damage.
Gracie checks a low kick from Foreman.
Foreman throws the kick towards the body but Gracie avoids it.
Foreman falls off balance throwing a combination

and Gracie counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Foreman's guard now.

Foreman wriggles free and stands up.
Gracie shoots and misses
and Foreman connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
A combination from Foreman does no damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A big left from Foreman misses.
Foreman throws the left hand but Gracie avoids the punch easily.
Foreman misses with a double jab
and Gracie counters with a right hand to the body.
The fighters circling - Foreman throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Foreman misses with a combination
and Gracie counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
David Foreman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Foreman throws a right hand that Gracie ducks under and follows up with a left that Gracie also avoids with ease.
Gracie misses with a takedown attempt
and Foreman counters with a leg kick.
Foreman thows a left - swing and a miss!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ren Gracie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Foreman throws out a powerful jab.
Gracie takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
A combination from Foreman does no damage.
Foreman throws a big shot that misses.
Foreman throws a body punch but Gracie moves out of range.

Foreman looks to land a right hand but Gracie moved out of range.
Foreman tries to bum rush Gracie with a series of wild strikes but Gracie uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Foreman swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Gracie trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Gracie drops back, looking for a kneebar! Foreman looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Foreman looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Foreman!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Foreman tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Foreman has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Foreman is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gracie knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Foreman swings around for an armbar but Gracie sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Foreman's guard.
Gracie not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Gracie drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Foreman dives on top into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Foreman is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Gracie keeping full guard, as Foreman tries to pass.
Foreman is looking to stand up but Gracie won't let him.

Gracie had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Foreman defends it easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Ren Gracie.
I think Gracie has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
