PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Harrison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vidar Strom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Harrison comes into the arena with When The Man Comes Around blaring out of the sound system. Mike Harrison is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Harrison!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vidar Strom!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Harrison looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Strom!

Harrison moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Strom has worked his arm free - good work by Strom!

Harrison stands up.
Harrison misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Harrison could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Harrison shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Strom keeping full guard, as Harrison tries to pass.
Harrison lands a couple of digs.

Harrison sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Harrison gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Harrison might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Harrison gets to his feet - Strom follows without any prompting.
Harrison is breathing heavily.
Left hook, right uppercut from Harrison.
Harrison throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Harrison scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Strom is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Harrison has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Harrison trying to control the action but Strom is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Harrison is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Strom is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Harrison stands up and beckons Strom to his feet.

Harrison gets caught flat footed, as Strom shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Harrison wants to sweep but no luck.
Harrison bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Strom's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Harrison trying to control but Strom is working from the bottom.
Harrison throws a big right hand that misses.
Harrison wants to control from the top but Strom keeps moving.
Harrison in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Harrison gets to his feet. Strom looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Harrison closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Harrison passes to side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Harrison decides to stand back up. Harrison steps back and let's Strom get back to his feet.
Strom takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Harrison misses with the combination.
Harrison tries to close the distance and clinch but Strom swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Harrison shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Strom's guard.

Harrison stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Strom keeps the fight on the outside.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Strom misses with a combination

and Harrison counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Harrison tries for a takedown but Strom manages to get underhooks.
Harrison on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Harrison throws a head punch that misses.

Strom escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Harrison dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Nice combo by Strom! Oh, that's hurt him - Harrison falls to the canvas and Strom follows him into side control.


Harrison is rocked!


It looks like Mike Harrison has been cut.
Mike Harrison overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Strom decides to stand up, so the ref orders Harrison to his feet.
Oh Harrison is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Strom has his takedown stuffed

and Harrison counters with a nice double leg into side control. Strom won't be happy with that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Harrison tries to move to full mount but Strom actually manages to regain half guard.

Strom has one foot on Harrison's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Harrison shoots in and bounces Strom off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Harrison seems to have got his legs back now.
Strom is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Harrison looking to pass the guard.
Harrison is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Strom wants to get back to his feet but Harrison is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Strom is breathing heavily.
Harrison tries to free his leg and advance position but Strom is retaining full guard.
Harrison stands and throws Strom's legs to the side, diving into side control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Harrison cracks Strom with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Harrison trying to control the position but Strom is working away.
Harrison scores with a couple of short elbows.
Strom takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Harrison wants to lay and pray for a moment but Strom keeps working.

Harrison decides to stand back up. Harrison steps back and let's Strom get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Harrison gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Strom blocks an elbow strike from Harrison.
Harrison is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Strom pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Strom is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Strom misses with some punches.
Harrison lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Strom lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Harrison.

Strom breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Harrison jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Strom misses with a double jab

and Harrison counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Harrison stops Strom from getting back to his feet.

Harrison decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Harrison has a takedown stuffed.
Strom doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Harrison counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Strom!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Harrison lands a nice shot to the head.
Harrison controlling the position easily from mount.

Harrison can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Strom is looking to escape.
Strom in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Harrison pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Strom is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Harrison can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Strom is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Harrison looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Harrison trying to control from half guard but Strom is working away.
Strom wants to get back to his feet.

Harrison stands up out of the half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Harrison gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Strom breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Harrison misses with a body shot.

Strom tries to bum rush Harrison with a series of wild strikes but Harrison uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Harrison stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Strom throws a body punch but Harrison moves out of range.
Mike Harrison is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Strom misses with a right hand

and Harrison counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Harrison won't allow Strom to get back to his feet.
Strom avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Strom pushes Harrison off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Strom gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Harrison counters with a low kick, right behind Strom 's knee.

Harrison fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Strom, pushing him back against the cage.
Harrison is trying to break free.

Strom breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Harrison tries to clinch but Strom moves out of range.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Harrison.
Strom shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Harrison as he jumps to the side.
Strom keeps the fight on the outside.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Harrison.
Harrison has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Strom!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Harrison is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Strom can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Harrison trying to control but Strom is having none of it.
Strom's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

A nice elbow there by Harrison.
Harrison is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Strom can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

The referee warns Strom that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Harrison lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Strom is bucking up trying to escape but Harrison cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Harrison fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Strom squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Vidar Strom has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Harrison has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mike Harrison showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Harrison, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
