PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Luiz Izecson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Giraldo Esparza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Giraldo Esparza was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Luiz Izecson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Giraldo Esparza!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Paulo Santos and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Izecson shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Esparza manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Izecson postures up.
Izecson wants to control from the top but Esparza keeps moving.
Esparza looking to hit a scissor sweep but Izecson is one step ahead there.
Esparza is trying to control the position but Izecson postures up.

Esparza has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Izecson is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Esparza.

Izecson doesn't manage to clinch there - Esparza circles away.

Izecson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Izecson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Esparza is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Esparza is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Izecson sees it coming and defends easily.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Izecson is staying active underneath Esparza, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Izecson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Izecson pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Izecson closes the distance and pushes Esparza back into the cage.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Izecson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Esparza's guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Izecson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Izecson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Esparza is just riding it out for now. Izecson eventually gives up the hold.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Izecson feints and then cracks Esparza's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Esparza down.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Esparza has his foot on Izecson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Izecson works his way back into a safe position though.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Luiz Izecson just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Izecson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Esparza tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Izecson presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Izecson has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Esparza's face.

Well Izecson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
