PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Terry Eckel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kalevi Rustola (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rustola has chosen Anvil of Crom as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kalevi Rustola!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Sergei Dronov and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rustola looks to land a combination. Eckel sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Terry Eckel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice sprawl there from Rustola as Eckel shoots in.
Rustola circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rustola scores with a jab.
Nice uppercut lands for Rustola. That snapped Eckel's head back.
Eckel fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Rustola throws a combination. Eckel tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Eckel shoots for a takedown but Rustola saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Terry Eckel. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rustola drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Rustola scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Eckel to see if he's OK.

Eckel tries to buck Rustola off but Rustola is having none of it.

Rustola connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Eckel some visible discomfort.
Rustola lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Eckel down.
Rustola tries to move to mount but Eckel blocks the move with his legs.
Eckel tries to buck Rustola off but Rustola is having none of it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rustola controls the position from side control.
Rustola landing a few strikes.
Rustola looks up at the clock and then as Eckel takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Rustola smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Eckel is working to avoid the ground and pound but Rustola connects with a decent elbow.

Eckel tries to improve position but can't.
Rustola lands a few punches from side control.
Rustola is putting a hurting on Eckel here, landing some big shots from side control.

Rustola tries to advance to mount but Eckel denies him.
Rustola is looking to take a break and control but Eckel is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Eckel is looking to regain half guard here but Rustola keeps moving and retains side control.
Eckel seems to have got his legs back now.

Eckel is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Rustola cracks Eckel with a big right hand but Eckel just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Eckel is trying to improve his position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Eckel tries for a takedown but Rustola circles away easily

and Rustola counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Rustola.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Eckel looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Rustola must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Eckel is looking to stand up but Rustola isn't so interested in that idea.

Eckel is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Rustola rolls with it to try and escape but Eckel cranks on the arm and Rustola is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
