Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kurtiz Larper! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rex Carver! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Summer Carpenter and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Larper scores with a takedown into Carver's guard. Carver wants to get back to his feet but Larper is in a dominant position and won't allow it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Carver wants to sweep here but Larper controlling him for the moment. Carver is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Larper wants to get up but he can't break Carver's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Carver wants to sweep here but Larper controlling him for the moment. Carver is looking to stand up but Larper isn't so interested in that idea.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Larper shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Larper showed some decent athleticism there. Larper prevents Carver from standing back up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Larper postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Carver to stand up. Larper shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Carver is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Larper manages to capitalize on a mistake by Carver to take his back! Carver looks gassed! Carver wants to escape the position.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Larper controlling the positon. Larper is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Carver is defending well though. Larper let's go of the attempt for now. Carver is trying to stand back up. Larper looking for the RNC.

Carver manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position. Larper shoots in for a takedown and gets it. The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Larper performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Larper passes the guard and advances to mount! Carver is desperately trying to improve his position but Larper has a good base and remains in mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Nice takedown defense from Carver. No joy for Larper on that attempt. Larper tries to close the distance and clinch up but Carver swats him away and circles back towards the center. Carver takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Larper decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Larper is keen to just control but Carver is a slippery customer.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Kurtiz Larper just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Carver pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Larper darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Larper is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
It looks like Larper is going to stand back up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Larper frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Larper controlling from the full mount. Carver is trying to reverse the position but instead Larper has taken his back - oops! Larper is trying to stick to Carver's back but Carver is turning into Larper. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Larper's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Carver. Carver postures up.
Larper seems keen to control Carver's posture. Larper might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Carver gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Larper shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Carver as he jumps to the side.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Larper misses with a takedown attempt - Carver sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kurtiz Larper. That's going to take a lot out of him. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Larper shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Carver napping and manages to drive through into side control! Carver pushes Larper away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Larper gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Larper trying to control the position but Carver is working away. Carver is trying to work for a sweep but Larper has mounted him! Carver is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Carver is controlling an arm, preventing Larper from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Larper has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Carver's body.

Carver manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position. Larper throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Carver is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Larper. Kurtiz Larper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Larper drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Larper gets to his feet. Carver looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Larper shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Carver is looking to improve his position but Larper isn't that keen on the idea. Larper controlling the pace for now. Carver is working to get back to half guard.
Larper with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Kurtiz Larper overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Carver is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Larper is looking to take a break and control but Carver is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Larper stands up and beckons Carver to his feet.

Carver gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Larper to score an easy takedown into full guard. Carver keeping moving, preventing Larper from controlling successfully. Larper has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Carver is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Carver is looking to improve his position.
