PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mayhem Munoz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lui Kang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Munoz comes to the cage accompanied by Showstopper. Kang has chosen Moby - Extreme Ways as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mayhem Munoz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lui Kang!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kang drives through with a takedown into guard.
Munoz wants to stand but Kang is controlling the position.
Munoz keeping moving, preventing Kang from controlling successfully.
Munoz not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kang must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Munoz working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Kang.
Kang postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Kang pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Munoz is keeping the position for now.
Munoz looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kang is one step ahead there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Kang shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Kang was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Munoz is trying to escape the mount.
Munoz regains half guard.
Kang stops Munoz from getting back to his feet.
Munoz is looking to control Kang's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Munoz avoid being mounted?
Munoz is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Kang scores with a couple of nice shots.
Kang not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kang looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Munoz is trying to get back to full guard.
Munoz wants to get back to his feet.
Munoz has hold of Kang's hands but Kang slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Munoz is breathing heavily.
Kang thows a huge punch but Munoz dodges it nicely.
Kang tries to stand and escape but Munoz is controlling the position.

Kang decides to return to a standing position.
Kang is looking to clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kang shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Munoz but Munoz pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Kang takes a jab right on the kisser.
Kang misses with a head kick.
Kang thows a body shot but no joy.
Kang shoots in looking for a takedown. Munoz tries to sprawl out of it but Kang keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Munoz manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Munoz fails with a takedown attempt.
Kang wants to clinch up but Munoz keeps it at a distance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kang shoots for a takedown but Munoz saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Mayhem Munoz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lui Kang.
Jab, jab by Munoz - just one landing.
Kang blocks a head kick by Munoz.

Kang rushes Munoz and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Kang manages to pull guard.
Kang looking to hit a scissor sweep but Munoz is one step ahead there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lui Kang dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Kang looks to score with a jab to the body but Munoz is just out of range.
Munoz dips to his left and cracks Kang with an uppercut!
Kang looks for the body kick but Munoz saw that one coming.
Munoz wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Munoz connects with a solid leg kick.

Kang shoots in and bounces Munoz off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Munoz is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Munoz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Munoz trying to keep a closed guard but Kang is proving a slippery customer.
Kang looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Kang trying to control the position from guard on top but Munoz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kang slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
You can see the frustration on Munoz's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Kang tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Kang trying to control the position but Munoz is working away.
Munoz is pushing Kang's head away, looking to escape. Kang manages to hold on to the position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Munoz tries to buck Kang off but Kang is having none of it.
Kang lands a nice forearm strike.

Kang tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kang has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Munoz is trying to improve his position.
Munoz avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Kang.
Munoz is not content to let Kang control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Munoz tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kang wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Kang controlling the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lui Kang showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Kang misses with a takedown attempt - Munoz sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Kang closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Kang throws a punch but it's blocked by Munoz.

Kang pulls Munoz into guard.
Munoz thows a big elbow that misses.
Kang trying to control the position.
Kang looking for a sweep. Not yet Kang, not yet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kang keeping moving, preventing Munoz from controlling successfully.
Munoz showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Munoz trying to control but Kang is working from the bottom.
Kang looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Munoz doesn't manage to clinch there - Kang circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kang wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Kang blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Kang drops down looking for an ankle pick but Munoz pulls his leg out and moves away.

Kang bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Kang looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Munoz is avoiding damage well.

Kang decides to stand back up. Kang steps back and let's Munoz get back to his feet.
Munoz pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Kang keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Munoz.
Kang shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Munoz counters with a takedown into side control.
Mayhem Munoz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lui Kang.

Kang regains half guard.
Kang trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Kang is looking to improve his position but Munoz isn't that keen on the idea.
Kang is squirming around, avoiding Munoz's attempts to control the action.
Munoz controlling his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Munoz avoids the attempt from Kang to control.
Kang is wriggling around trying to escape.
Lui Kang is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Kang is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Munoz raining down shots from the mount!
Kang wants to hold on but Munoz pushes him away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mayhem Munoz showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Kang has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
