Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sterling Paine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robby Tashley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sterling Paine has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sterling Paine! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Robby Tashley! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, John Mangel and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tashley fails to land the takedown. Paine shoots in and bounces Tashley off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Tashley is looking to stand up but Paine isn't so interested in that idea. Tashley throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Paine in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Tashley preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Paine wants to pass the guard but Tashley is keeping the position. Paine is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Paine seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Tashley for as long as he can get away with. Paine scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
That's one minute gone in the round. Paine is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Tashley is looking for a triangle but Paine pushes his legs off easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Paine makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Tashley being controlled here, momentarily. Paine looking to pass the guard. Paine advances to half guard. Well, if Paine is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tashley is pressing down on Paine's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Tashley preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Tashley is trying to keep Paine in close.
Paine postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Tashley keeping moving, preventing Paine from controlling successfully. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Paine's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Tashley wants to improve his position but instead Paine has moved into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Paine wants to control but Tashley is keeping him busy.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Tashley changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Paine looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Tashley throwing shots but missing, from side control. Tashley with the ground and pound but Paine regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Tashley wants to free his trapped foot but Paine is holding on for dear life with his legs. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Paine is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paine decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Tashley has hold of Paine's hands but Paine slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Paine trying to control the action but Tashley is working from the bottom. Tashley trying to hold on to Paine's head to control him but Paine postures up.
Paine scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Paine stalling away here and it's allowed Tashley to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Paine has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Paine controlling from the top position. Paine scoring with punches to the head and body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Paine wants to control from the top but Tashley keeps moving. Paine stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tashley swivels though and keeps the full guard. Tashley trying to control the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Tashley digs a good hook to Paine's body.
Tashley with a poor takedown and Paine decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Tashley's guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Paine stays in close to Tashley's body and controls the position. Tashley trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Paine wants to control from the top but Tashley keeps moving. Paine distracts Tashley with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Paine trying to control but Tashley is working from the bottom. Paine tries to free his leg and advance position but Tashley is retaining full guard. Tashley is trying to keep Paine in close.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Tashley clinches up with Paine and pushes him back against the cage. Tashley controlling the action here for a moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Paine lands a takedown into guard.

Paine stays in close to Tashley's body and controls the position. Paine's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Paine has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Paine throws a big right hand that misses. Paine scoring with punches to the head and body. Paine trying to control the position from guard on top but Tashley is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Paine sitting in guard here, content to control. Tashley keeping full guard, as Paine tries to pass. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Sterling Paine dominated that second round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Tashley throws a head kick that Paine semi-blocks.
Tashley takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Tashley has his takedown stuffed and Paine counters with a single leg into guard. Tashley didn't expect that.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Paine's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Tashley is trying to control the position but Paine postures up. Paine controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Paine won't allow Tashley to sweep him here. Paine slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Paine with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Paine is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Paine advances position into side control!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tashley tries to bench press Paine off him but Paine keeps the position. Paine working the ground and pound from side control. Paine landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Paine grinds an elbow into Tashley's temple. Paine scores with punches from side control. Paine passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Tashley! Paine content just to control the position here. Tashley keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Paine landing strikes, looking to finish! Paine scoring with strikes but Tashley is staying in there. A nice elbow there by Paine. Sterling Paine is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Paine lands with some strikes. Paine landing shots from mount. Paine scoring with strikes but Tashley is staying in there. Paine takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

And that's the end of the fight! Sterling Paine showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Paine, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
