PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between George Perry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Diamante (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, George Perry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Michael Diamante!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Leandro Rodrigues and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perry has a takedown stuffed.
Diamante circles away from the clinch attempt.
Diamante wants to clinch but Perry slips to the side

and Perry holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Perry keeps control of Diamante as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Perry throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Diamantes head.
Perry looking for a takedown.
Perry goes for a takedown attempt but Diamante pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for George Perry. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Perry throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Diamante's waist but Diamante gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Perry off to one side.
Diamante lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Diamante.


It looks like George Perry has been cut.
Perry misses with a double jab
and Diamante counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Diamante tries to clinch but Perry moves away

and Perry counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Diamante is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Perry decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Michael Diamante seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Diamante throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Perry instigates a clinch.
Diamante lands a left hand.

Perry manages to break the clinch.
Diamante tries to clinch up but Perry circles away and keeps his distance.
Michael Diamante is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The fight stays on the outside here - Perry looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A looping hook to the body misses from Diamante. Perry does a little dance to reset his feet.
Diamante lands a nice shot that snaps Perry's head back.
Some wild striking there from Diamante.
Diamante looks gassed!
Diamante scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Perry drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Diamante looking to control.
Perry postures up in Diamante's guard and throws a big left but Diamante blocks it.
Perry pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Diamante is keeping the position for now.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Diamante can do anything to dispel that myth.

Perry gets to his feet. Diamante looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Diamante clinches but Perry breaks the clinch
and Perry counters with a low kick, right behind Diamante 's knee.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Diamante throws a right and a left that Perry avoids nicely.
Perry shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Diamante as he avoids it easily.

Perry looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Diamante!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A nice elbow there by Perry.
Perry pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Perry lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Perry is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Diamante to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Diamante shrugs it off.
Diamante is bucking up trying to escape but Perry cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Perry has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Perry is working for a guillotine from mount but Diamante frees his head quite easily.

Perry cracks Diamante with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Diamante is squirming around, avoiding Perry's attempts to control the action.
Perry working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Diamante tries to reverse the position but Perry maintains control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Perry lands a nice shot to the head.
Diamante tries to buck Perry off but he can't manage it.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Perry fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Diamante, pushing him back against the cage.

Perry pulls guard successfully.
Diamante postures up.
Perry is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Diamante is controlling him.
Diamante wants to stand but Perry is controlling his posture from full guard.
Perry is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Diamante tries to kick Perry off but Perry keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Well, if Perry is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Diamante is not content to let Perry control the position.
Perry sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Diamante is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Perry scores with a couple of nice shots.
Perry is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Perry is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Diamante!

Perry is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Diamante is in real trouble.
Diamante is trying to break free.
Perry lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Perry is looking to finish with some ground and pound!
Diamante is really stuck here.
Diamante trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Perry keeps control of the position easily here as Diamante tries to buck him off.
Perry has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Perry's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Perry's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Perry pushes Diamante up against the cage in a clinch.
Perry tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Diamante smiles and moves away.
Diamante tries to clinch but Perry moves away

and Perry counters by moving into the clinch.
Diamante stalling in the clinch but Perry improves position.
Perry looking for a takedown.
Diamante wants to get back to striking at distance but Perry won't allow it.
Perry content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Perry seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.

Perry escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Diamante misses with a jab, cross combination.
Perry fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Diamante avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for George Perry. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nice uppercut lands for Diamante. That snapped Perry's head back.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Perry takes the fight into the clinch.
Diamante doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Perry manages to pull guard.
Perry is trying to keep Diamante in close.
Diamante trying to control the position from guard on top but Perry is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Perry is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Perry has a closed guard, preventing Diamante from standing up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Diamante avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Perry throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Perry is on top in guard.
Perry wants to control from the top but Diamante keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Perry advances to half guard.
Perry is looking to take a break and control but Diamante is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Perry is really struggling to control Diamante but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Perry thows a huge punch but Diamante dodges it nicely.

Diamante pushes Perry off looking to stand but Perry dives back in and keeps control.
Perry lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Diamante keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Perry slows the pace down in half guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Diamante misses with a jab, cross combination.
George Perry is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Perry scores with a hook to the body. Diamante takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Perry clinches.
Perry's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Perry turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Perry manages to end up in side control.

Perry stands up and beckons Diamante to his feet.
Perry shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Diamante as he jumps to the side.

And that's the end of the fight!
George Perry showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Perry, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
