PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Tanner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Razor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Tanner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Razor!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Bruno Lombardi and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Razor throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Tanner shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Razor but Razor pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Tanner tries to close the distance and clinch up but Razor swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Tanner fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Razor sprawls well initially but Tanner persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Tanner wants to pass to mount but Razor is defending the position.

Razor looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Razor is pressing down on Tanner's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Tanner stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Razor swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Tanner trying to control the position from guard on top but Razor is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Tanner is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Razor is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Tanner is controlling him.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Razor holds on and takes a little breather.
Razor wants to sweep here but Tanner controlling him for the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Razor will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Razor trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Tanner checks a leg kick.
Tanner tries to bum rush Razor with a series of wild strikes but Razor uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
No luck for Tanner with that takedown attempt.
A solid leg kick lands there for Tanner.
Tanner tries to clinch but Razor moves out of range.
Jack Tanner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Razor misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Tanner fails with the takedown

and Razor counters with a nice double leg into side control. Tanner won't be happy with that.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Tanner. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Razor wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tanner keeps working.
Razor throws a strike aimed at the side of Tanner's head but Tanner avoids it well.
Tanner tries to improve position but can't.
Razor controls the position.
Tanner tries to buck Razor off but Razor is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Razor fails with the takedown
and Tanner counters with a series of strikes. Razor will be more careful next time no doubt.
Tanner displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.

Tanner darts in and clinches Razor up against the cage.

Razor pulls guard.

Tanner drops back, looking for a kneebar! Razor looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Razor looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Razor!
Tanner is breathing heavily.
Razor taking a breather here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tanner regains half guard.
Tanner tries to get to full guard but Razor has control of the leg.

Razor stands up from half guard.
Tanner throws a one two combo.
Razor blocks a head kick by Tanner.
Tanner shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Razor but Razor pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Tanner closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Razor to the mat! Razor manages to get full guard.
Razor bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Tanner's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Chris Razor will probably get the nod.
That's time! Tanner's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Tanner drives through with a takedown into guard.
Tanner trying to control but Razor is working from the bottom.
Razor working a defensive guard here.
Razor tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Razor is looking to stand up but Tanner isn't so interested in that idea.
Razor is breathing heavily.

Razor is working an open guard so Tanner takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Tanner wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Tanner tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Razor smiles and moves away.
A head kick misses from Tanner.
Razor blocks the body kick.
Jack Tanner is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Razor shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Tanner is looking to escape.
Razor is thwarting Tanner's attempts to control the position.
Tanner is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Razor is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tanner keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Razor looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Razor winds up and cracks Tanner with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Tanner is trying to control but can't.
Tanner tries to get to full guard but Razor has control of the leg.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Still in half guard, Razor seems content to control.
Razor is thwarting Tanner's attempts to control the position.
Razor is trying to control the action in half guard but Tanner is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tanner is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Razor pulls his head out easily.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Razor closes the distance but Tanner moves to the side
and Tanner counters with a one-two to the body.

Razor forces Tanner back against the cage and clinches.
Tanner tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Razor just stands there and leans against the cage.
The referee calls for Razor to work.
Tanner tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Tanner. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Tanner wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Razor fails to pull guard.

Razor works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Tanner is looking for a triangle but Razor pushes his legs off easily.
Razor works over Tanner with some ground and pound from guard.

Tanner has his foot on Razor's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Razor works his way back into a safe position though.
Tanner wants to sweep but no luck.

Tanner had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Razor is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Tanner Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Razor's back instead.
Even with his hooks in, Tanner manages to miss with strikes from the back.

Tanner is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Razor defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Chris Razor will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Tanner scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Tanner throws a sloppy head kick

and Razor counters with a shoot takedown. Tanner fights it but they end up in guard.
Tanner bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Razor's guard.
Razor wants to improve his position but instead Tanner has moved into half guard.
Tanner stalling away here and it's allowed Razor to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Tanner trying to control but Razor is working from the bottom.
Tanner seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Razor is trying to control the position but Tanner postures up.
Razor takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Razor keeping full guard, as Tanner tries to pass.
Razor keeping moving, preventing Tanner from controlling successfully.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Tanner tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Tanner bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Tanner advances nicely into full mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tanner punching from mount but Razor doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Tanner wants to control the pace but Razor is squirming around nicely.
Razor manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Razor wants to control but Tanner is keeping busy.
Tanner tries to stand but can't do so whilst Razor controls his leg.
Razor is looking to improve his position.
Chris Razor has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Razor won't allow Tanner to pass to mount.

Tanner is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Tanner wants to lay and pray for a moment but Razor keeps working.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Nice uppercut there from Tanner.

Tanner closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Razor to the mat! Razor manages to get full guard.

Razor looking for a guillotine here but Tanner defends easily.
Tanner wants to control from the top but Razor keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tanner passes Razor's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Razor trying to control but Tanner postures up.
Tanner trying to pass the guard but Razor defending well.
Razor wants to get back to full guard.
Jack Tanner has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Tanner is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Tanner winds up and cracks Razor with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jack Tanner.
I think Razor has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
