Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Billy Graham! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Archibald Ellington! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Alyssa Summers and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ellington gets the takedown into side control. Ellington scoring with punches and elbows. Graham struggling a bit here. Ellington wants to take a breather but Graham manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Ellington. Ellington trying to control but Graham is working from the bottom. Ellington is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Graham is looking for a triangle but Ellington pushes his legs off easily.
Ellington wants to control from the top but Graham keeps moving. Ellington wants to pass the guard but Graham is keeping the position. Ellington working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Graham shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Archibald Ellington seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Graham fails with a takedown attempt. Graham fails with a takedown attempt from distance. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Billy Graham. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Graham dodges the punch combination from Ellington.
Graham lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Ellington changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Graham looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Graham is trying to get back to half guard. Ellington wants to control but Graham is keeping him busy. Ellington taking a breather here. Ellington misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Graham gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Ellington gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks! Graham is breathing heavily. Ellington rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Graham moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Nice takedown defense from Ellington. No joy for Graham on that attempt. Graham connects with the punch. Graham uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Ellington.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ellington takes the fight into the clinch. Ellington with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Graham jumps guard but Ellington stands there with Graham around his waist. Graham gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Ellington lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Ellington wants to control but Graham is keeping him busy. Ellington stalling. Graham misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Ellington uses his free foot to push down on Graham's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Graham. Graham manages to regain half guard. Good work. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Ellington wants to take a breather but Graham is having none of it. Ellington wants to advance to full mount but Graham doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Graham is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Ellington works a leg free and moves into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ellington seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Graham does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Ellington has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Ellington controlling the pace. Ellington decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Ellington gets the takedown into side control. Graham is looking for a sweep. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ellington laying and praying for a moment but Graham takes advantage and regains half guard. Graham trying to control but Ellington postures up.
Ellington not landing any meaningful shots this time. Graham is refusing to be controlled, as Ellington sits in half guard. Graham gets back to full guard.
Ellington postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Graham is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ellington, into his guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ellington had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Graham is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Ellington Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Graham's back instead. Graham wants to escape the position but for the time being he's just trying to control the pace. Graham trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. Graham is keeping busy.
Graham trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Graham tries to escape but Ellington has the hooks in and won't let him break free. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Graham is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Graham looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Archibald Ellington dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Ellington fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ellington shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Graham gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Ellington is on the wrong end of a couple of strikes there. Ellington with a nice head shot there. Graham not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Graham wants to sweep but no luck. Ellington wants to stand but Graham is controlling his posture from full guard. Ellington tries to free his leg and advance position but Graham is retaining full guard. Graham has his feet on Ellington's thighs here. He's pushed Ellington off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Ellington screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
