PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mike Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Hardy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hawk comes to the cage accompanied by Everytime I Die. Dan Hardy will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mike Hawk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Dan Hardy!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Andrew Berry and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hawk drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hawk slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Hardy wants to get back to his feet.
Hawk landing a few strikes.
Hawk just content to control the position.
Hardy is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Hawk tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Hawk is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hardy knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Hawk misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Hardy tries to keep at a distance but Hawk has taken the fight into the clinch.

It looks like Mike Hawk has been cut.
Hardy wants to break free but Hawk has control.

Hawk keeps control of Hardy as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Hawk manages to pull guard.
Hawk trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Hawk is pulling down on Hardy's head. It's preventing any offense from Hardy, at least for the moment.
Hawk is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Hawk lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hardy!

Hawk lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Hardy hang on?

Hardy blocks a leg kick.

Hawk scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Hawk lands a nice shot to the head.
Hardy wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hawk is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Hardy up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Hardy tries to clinch

and Hawk holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Hardy is trying to break the clinch but Hawk has him pressed against the cage.
Hardy blocks an elbow strike from Hawk.
Hawk doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Hawk manages to pull guard.
Hawk has his hands on Hardy's head, controlling the position.
Hardy trying to stand up but can't free himself from Hawk's guard.
Hardy must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Hawk seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hawk is on top in guard.
Hardy is breathing heavily.
Hawk landing with the ground and pound.

Hardy can't keep his opponent in guard - Hawk advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Hawk content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Hawk slips a nice elbow through Hardy's hands, connecting with Hardy's forehead.
Hawk slows the pace down in half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Hawk decides to return to a standing position.

Hawk shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hardy's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hawk stays in close to Hardy's body and controls the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Mike Hawk just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Hawk chips away with some ground and pound.
Hawk controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Hardy wants to stand up but Hawk is controlling him.
Hawk advances position into side control!
Mike Hawk overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Hardy wants to get back to his feet.
Hardy is looking for a sweep.
Hardy is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Hardy is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Hawk remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Hardy misses with a takedown

and Hawk counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hardy won't be happy with that.
Hawk cracks Hardy with a big elbow.
Hawk controls the position.

Hawk is working to tighten is grip on Hardy's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Hardy has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Hawk is really squeezing tight and eventually Hardy passes out! Hawk breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
