The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Butchers fails with an attempt to clinch.
carmichael shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Butchers is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Butchers got a little sloppy there for a moment and carmichael has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Butchers has managed to get both his arms back between carmichael's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

carmichael darts in and clinches Butchers up against the cage.
Butchers tries to break free but carmichael pushes him back against the cage.
carmichael turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and carmichael manages to end up in side control.
carmichael takes a little break here. Butchers wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Butchers is looking to regain half guard here but carmichael keeps moving and retains side control.
carmichael stands up and beckons Butchers to his feet.
Butchers tries to clinch but fails miserably
and carmichael counters with a nice low kick that buckles Butchers's knee momentarily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Butchers shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
so carmichael counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Butchers is working an open guard so carmichael takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
carmichael shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Butchers napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Butchers shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Butchers is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so carmichael is just riding it out for now. Butchers eventually gives up the hold.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
carmichael shoots in looking for a takedown. Butchers tries to sprawl out of it but carmichael keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Butchers manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
carmichael tries to land a front kick but Butchers steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

and carmichael counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Butchers's guard now.

Butchers has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Let's hope that carmichael has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

rob carmichael comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well carmichael has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
