Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jose Rivera!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Penn!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Alan Glass and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penn changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rivera looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Penn tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Penn has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Rivera is looking for a sweep.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Penn can't escape the position.
Penn sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Penn is staying active underneath Rivera, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Rivera is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Penn doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Rivera.

Penn is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rivera pulls his head out easily.
Rivera is trying to control the action in half guard but Penn is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Penn makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Penn.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Frank Penn will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Penn has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rivera can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Rivera is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Penn defends it well.

Penn tries to roll over but Rivera keeps him under control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Rivera shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Penn's guard.

Penn has his foot on Rivera's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rivera works his way back into a safe position though.

Penn is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Rivera rolls with it to try and escape but Penn cranks on the arm and Rivera is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Frank Penn!
