PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chris Bacon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Foe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chris Bacon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joe Foe!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Skip Squint and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bacon lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Foe circles away quickly and effectively.
Foe moves out of range of the body kick.
Foe dives in and grabs Bacon's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bacon pushes down on Foe's head and hops out.

Foe drops Bacon with a right and a left! Foe comes rushing in but Bacon regains his composure and manages to keep Foe in guard.


Bacon is rocked!


It looks like Chris Bacon has been cut.
Foe with a flurry of punches that miss.
Oh Bacon is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Foe throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bacon works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Bacon seems to have got his legs back now.
Bacon working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Foe.

Foe is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Bacon is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Bacon has escaped and now he's on top!

Foe is looking for a triangle here but Bacon uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Foe is looking for a sweep.

Foe manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Foe is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Bacon defends it well.

Foe is trying to work for a kimura but Bacon is defending well.
Bacon is looking to escape.
Foe is trying to control the action in half guard but Bacon is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Bacon avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Foe.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Foe not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Foe trying to control the action but Bacon is working from the bottom.
Foe thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Bacon's head.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Bacon swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Foe counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Foe tries to pass to full mount but Bacon defends it.
Foe looks gassed!
Bacon regains full guard. Nicely done.

Foe stands up and waves to Bacon to follow him.
Foe fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Bacon manages to avoid it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bacon tries to bum rush Foe with a series of wild strikes but Foe uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Bacon throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Foe counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Foe is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Foe looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Bacon knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Foe on the ground.
Foe trying to control the action but Bacon is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Foe is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Bacon as he works his way to full guard.
Foe wants to pass the guard but Bacon is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Foe drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Bacon manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Foe has Bacon in his guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Foe isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Bacon stacks Foe on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Bacon!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Foe dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Chris Bacon's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Bacon swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Foe counters with a left and a right that stings Bacon.

Foe fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Bacon sprawls well initially but Foe persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Bacon is looking for a sweep. Foe is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Still in half guard, Foe seems content to control.

Foe is working for a kimura here but Bacon manages to reverse the position and he's now in Foe's guard.

Foe working for a triangle but Bacon defends it easily.
Bacon wanted to stand there but Foe had control of the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Foe is breathing heavily.

Foe has an active guard here but Bacon has managed to pass into half guard.
Foe regains full guard. Nicely done.
Joe Foe has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bacon has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Foe is proving hard to escape from.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Foe wants to control the position but Bacon says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Bacon wants to stand up but Foe is controlling the position.

Foe is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Bacon pulls his head out easily.
Foe trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Foe is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Bacon sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Foe tries to reverse the position but Bacon maintains control.
Foe tries to lock up and control but Bacon gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Foe working to try and regain half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Bacon stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Bacon fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Bacon uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Foe has time to react.


It looks like Joe Foe has been cut.
Bacon throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Chris Bacon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Bacon tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Foe avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Foe shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Bacon manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Foe wants to pass the guard but Bacon is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Joe Foe will probably get the nod - 10:9.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Bacon throws a right and a left that Foe avoids nicely.
Bacon tries to bum rush Foe with a series of wild strikes but Foe uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Bacon steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Foe.
Foe has a takedown stuffed.
Bacon will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Foe swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Foe changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Foe moves in looking to clinch but Bacon pushes him off.
Foe tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Bacon throws a series of punches but Foe moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bacon rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Foe moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Foe scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Bacon is looking for a sweep.

Foe wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Bacon, who protects the arm well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Foe tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Foe tries to move into full mount but can't pass Bacon's legs.
Foe in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Foe decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Bacon looks to land a combination but Foe avoids it well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bacon throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Foe avoids a punch combination nicely.
Bacon throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Foe swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Bacon misses with a double jab

so Foe counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Bacon is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Foe trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Bacon manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Foe tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Chris Bacon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Bacon got a little sloppy there for a moment and Foe has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bacon has managed to get both his arms back between Foe's legs - danger averted.
Foe looking to control.
Foe tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Foe is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Bacon is aware though and is defending well.

Foe looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Bacon passes into half guard.
Foe trying to get back to full guard but Bacon takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Bacon takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Foe is looking to improve his position but Bacon isn't that keen on the idea.
Foe flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Joe Foe is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Bacon wants to finish this one by submission but Foe is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Bacon.
Foe sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Joe Foe comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Foe has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
