The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Willis tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Lesnar paws at him with a jab and circles away. Willis fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Willis scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Lesnar is looking for a sweep. Willis is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Lesnar is holding on to half guard well. Lesnar is trying to maintain the position but Willis is very close to passing his half guard. Willis is pressing down on Lesnar's thigh, looking to free his foot. Lesnar is holding on for now. Lesnar regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Willis. Lesnar looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Willis works his way into full mount! Willis with the ground and pound from mount. The referee warns Lesnar that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Willis lands a nice shot to the head. Lesnar wants to hold on but Willis pushes him away. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Lesnar is rocked! Willis landing punches. Lesnar is still in real trouble! Can Willis finish him? Willis working for a guillotine from mount but Lesnar is in no mood to give up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Patrick Willis dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Willis closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Willis landing a few strikes. Lesnar seems to have recovered his senses. Who's going to make the next move? Willis trying to control the position but Lesnar is working away. Willis is trying to get an arm triangle but Lesnar is defending well. Lesnar tries to buck Willis off but Willis is having none of it. Lesnar struggling a bit here. Lesnar is breathing heavily. Lesnar taking a bit of punishment here - Willis scoring with strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Willis cracks Lesnar with a big elbow. Patrick Willis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. You can see the frustration on Lesnar's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Willis cracks Lesnar with an elbow. That is naaassty. Willis scores with a couple of short elbows. Lesnar is not content to let Willis control the position. Willis scores with punches from side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Willis lands a strong strike to the head of Lesnar. That's dazed him! Willis looking to finish here. Lesnar is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Willis lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
