PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jordan Clark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and ColeX Coward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). ColeX Coward will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jordan Clark!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, ColeX Coward!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Gregory Folan and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clark shoots in for a takedown but Coward shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Coward shoots and misses

and Clark counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Coward!
Clark prevents Coward from getting the reversal.
Coward tries to hold on but Clark pushes him away.
Clark misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Clark controlling his opponent.
Clark trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Coward holds on to Clark around his waist, trying desperately to prevent any attacks.
Clark cracks Coward with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Clark landing strikes, looking to finish!
Coward is trying desperately to improve position.

Clark lands with some strikes.
Coward is looking to improve his position but Clark isn't that keen on the idea.
Clark trying to control but Coward is having none of it.

Coward is bucking up trying to escape but Clark cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Coward tries to lock up and control but Clark gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Clark tries to control but Coward wriggling away.
Coward can't escape the position.

Clark is working for a guillotine from mount but Coward frees his head quite easily.
Clark is breathing heavily.

Clark jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Coward manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Clark is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Coward is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Coward tries to improve position but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Clark looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Coward is looking for a sweep.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Coward is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Clark in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Coward can't do much from the bottom here.
Coward looks to move to half guard but instead Clark has passed into mount! Damn!
Coward tries to buck Clark off but he can't manage it.
Clark takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Clark breaks from Coward's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Clark has hold of Coward's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Coward manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Clark looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jordan Clark dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Coward throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Clark takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Coward scores with a jab.
Clark fails with the takedown

and Coward counters with a head kick that drops Clark to the mat! Clark scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!

Oh Clark is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Coward drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Clark taking punishment in the form of punches.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Clark is looking to regain half guard here but Coward keeps moving and retains side control.
Clark seems to have got his legs back now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Clark is working hard here to advance position.
Coward tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Clark throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Clark defending against the ground and pound.
Coward trying to control the position but Clark is working away.
Coward scores with a couple of short elbows.
Coward wants to stand but Clark is controlling his arm.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Coward pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Clark wants to control for a moment but Coward uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Clark is trying to control. Coward wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Clark is looking for a kimura but Coward is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Clark to get the leverage.
Coward pushes Clark off looking to stand but Clark dives back in and keeps control.
Coward is trying to get back to full guard.

Clark is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Still in half guard, Clark seems content to control.

Clark is looking for a kimura but Coward is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Clark to get the leverage.

Clark thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Coward wants to get back to full guard.
Clark passes to side control.
Coward can't do much from the bottom here.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Coward is trying to escape the position but Clark is controlling the position.
Coward really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Clark. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Clark sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Coward is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Clark wants to control but Coward is keeping him busy.

Clark is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Coward defends it well.

ColeX Coward showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Clark fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Coward sprawls well initially but Clark persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Coward wants to control but Clark is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Coward keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Clark lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Clark is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Coward has managed to free his arm - good work.
Coward makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Coward.
Coward looking to control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Coward utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Jordan Clark overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Coward looking for a sweep. Not yet Coward, not yet.
Clark throws and elbow that misses. Coward uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Clark's guard. Nice move by Coward!

Clark manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Clark thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Clark looking to control but Coward is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Clark misses with a head shot.

Clark goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Coward is on top in guard.

Clark is looking for a triangle but Coward pushes his legs off easily.

Clark looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Coward working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Clark's head.
Coward trying to control the position from guard on top but Clark is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Clark looking to hit a scissor sweep but Coward is one step ahead there.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Clark needs to keep his hands up - Coward had a free shot at his head there.
Jordan Clark is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Coward is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Clark fails with the takedown

and Coward counters with a shoot takedown. Clark fights it but they end up in guard.
Clark trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Clark looking to hit a scissor sweep but Coward is one step ahead there.
Clark has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Coward landing some decent shots from guard.
Coward trying to control the position from guard on top but Clark is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Coward must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Clark seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Coward wants to get up but he can't break Clark's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Coward fails in his attempt to clinch.

Coward gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Clark postures up in Coward's guard and throws a big left but Coward blocks it.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to ColeX Coward.
I think Coward has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
