Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rob Dylan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Michael Hopp! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Dillan Fox and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hopp uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Dylan.
Hopp slips a jab and a cross from Dylan.
Rob Dylan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hopp takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Hopp showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Dylan.
Hopp will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Dylan lands a head shot. This fight brought to you by 5M nutrition - it's mmmmm tasty. Nice jab by Dylan. Dylan throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hopp. Dylan scores with a crisp jab that stopped Hopp in his tracks. Dylan cracks Hopp with a good jab. Hopp feints and as Dylan raises his hands in defense, Hopp changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hopp wants to pass the guard but Dylan is keeping the position. Dylan keeping moving, preventing Hopp from controlling successfully. Dylan looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Hopp has picked Dylan up and slammed him! Dylan can't keep hold of the triangle and Hopp manages to pass to side control! Hopp thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Hopp working away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hopp tries to advance position but instead Dylan slips a leg back in to half guard. Hopp wants to pass to mount but Dylan is defending the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Hopp slips a nice elbow through Dylan's hands, connecting with Dylan's forehead. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hopp is thwarting Dylan's attempts to control the position. Hopp is looking to stall here but Dylan recovers full guard. Dylan has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Hopp with a flurry of punches that miss. Dylan is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hopp defends well. Hopp postures up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hopp throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Dylan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Dylan displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Hopp looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Excellent takedown into side control there by Hopp. Dylan tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hopp wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dylan gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Hopp uses his free foot to push down on Dylan's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Dylan. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Hopp trying to control but he's not successful this time. Hopp is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Dylan can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Dylan is wriggling around trying to escape.
Dylan slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Hopp is looking for a kimura but Dylan is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hopp to get the leverage. Dylan trying to hold on to Hopp's head to control him but Hopp postures up.
Dylan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Rob Dylan will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Hopp keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Hopp closes the distance and clinches up with Dylan, looking for a takedown. Hopp pushes Dylan against the cage but Dylan circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Hopp walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Hopp takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Dylan misses the shot to the body. Dylan keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Hopp scores a takedown into full mount! Hopp wants to control but instead Dylan manages to regain half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hopp trying to mount his opponent but Dylan defends it. Hopp stalling away here and it's allowed Dylan to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Hopp throws a strike but Dylan rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Hopp is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Dylan is aware though and is defending well. Dylan not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Dylan wants to pass the guard but Hopp is keeping the position. Dylan sitting in guard here, content to control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Hopp throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Dylan working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Dylan is in close to Hopp's body, working some short punches and elbows. Dylan tries to free his leg and advance position but Hopp is retaining full guard. Dylan working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Hopp's head. Hopp looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Dylan lands a couple of digs. Dylan loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Dylan postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Hopp looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Dylan wants to control from the top but Hopp keeps moving.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hopp thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Dylan preventing the sweep.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Dylan lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Hopp fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Dylan lands with an uppercut that bounces Hopp off the cage and back into rage. Hopp shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Dylan pinned against the cage. Dylan gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Rob Dylan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Hopp. Dylan looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hopp is fending him off so far but Dylan persists. Nope, Hopp circles away and we're back to standing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hopp takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Hopp shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Dylan connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Hopp doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Dylan throws an overhand right that lands on Hopp's shoulder, as Hopp tries to avoid the shot. Dylan moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Dylan digs a good hook to Hopp's body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rob Dylan dominated that second round. That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
Dylan connects with the punch. Hopp misses with a takedown attempt and Dylan counters with a one-two to the body. Hopp doesn't succeed with the takedown and Dylan counters with a takedown into side control. Dylan controls the position. Hopp manages to work his way to half guard, despite Dylan's best efforts. Nice strikes from Dylan there. Dylan thows a huge punch but Hopp dodges it nicely.
Dylan works his foot free and advances to mount. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Hopp regains half guard. Dylan takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hopp wants to get back to full guard. Hopp is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Hopp takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Hopp is defending against the submission attempts here by Dylan.
Hopp blocking the ground and pound attempt from Dylan. Hopp is looking to improve his position.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Dylan throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Hopp on the side of the head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. A jab from Dylan does it's job there. Dylan instigates a clinch. Dylan lands a body punch in the clinch. Dylan lands with a left to the head. Hopp tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Dylan just stands there and leans against the cage. Rob Dylan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Hopp. Hopp tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
A shot in the inside from Dylan. Dylan looking to slow down the pace here. Dylan lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Hopp wants a takedown but no success here.
Hopp tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Dylan smiles and moves away.
Dylan has taken the fight to the clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dylan leaning against his opponent.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Dylan. Hopp misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Dylan.
Hopp drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Dylan has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Hopp clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! Dylan connects with a big shot to the side of Hopp's head.
Hopp covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
Hopp rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Dylan trying to control the action but Hopp is working from the bottom. Rob Dylan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Dylan is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dylan seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hopp for as long as he can get away with. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Hopp trying to control here.
And that's the end of the fight! Rob Dylan showed his dominance in that final round. Well Dylan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
