Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Felix Martin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Peter Gibson! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gibson turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Martin lands a jab. Gibson does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Martin closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Martin lands in his opponent's guard. Martin trying to control the position from guard on top but Gibson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Gibson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Martin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Gibson wants to get back to his feet but Martin is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Martin looking to sit in guard and control but Gibson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gibson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Gibson looks to land a right hand but Martin moved out of range. Peter Gibson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Martin closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Martin wants to take a breather but Gibson is having none of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Martin not landing any meaningful shots this time. Gibson is trying to stand.
Martin is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gibson is just riding it out for now. Martin eventually gives up the hold. Gibson is looking to escape. Martin is looking to take a break and control but Gibson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Gibson is looking to escape. Martin is keen to just control but Gibson is a slippery customer.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Gibson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Martin.
Peter Gibson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. A punch combination from Gibson misses. Martin swings away with a leg kick that misses. Gibson takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Gibson tries to land a leg kick but Martin saw it coming and moves away.
Gibson throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Gibson throws the kick towards the body but Martin avoids it. Gibson misses with an attempted mid kick.
Martin takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Gibson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Martin swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
enabling Gibson to counter with a crisp jab. No joy there for Gibson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Martin looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Gibson! Martin takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Martin looking to isolate an arm here. Gibson doesn't see it coming and as Martin extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Martin!
