The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Penn throws out a token jab with nothing on it. De la Hoya misses with a double jab.
Penn showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from De la Hoya.
Penn shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. De la Hoya manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Penn throws a strike but De la Hoya rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. De la Hoya being controlled here momentarily. Penn is trying to control the position from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Penn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Penn bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in De la Hoya's guard. Penn looking to pass the guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Penn throws a big right hand that misses. De la Hoya wants to sweep here but Penn controlling him for the moment. Penn trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but De la Hoya manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! De la Hoya preventing the sweep.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Penn working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. De la Hoya doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Penn is tightening it up a little... De la Hoya has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! De la Hoya reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! De la Hoya taps out! nice BJJ there by Penn!
