PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jay Otto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jay Otto has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jay Otto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, James Martin!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martin fails with a takedown attempt.
Otto throws a right and a left that Martin avoids nicely.

Martin feints and as Otto raises his hands in defense, Martin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Otto wants to stand up but Martin is controlling him.
Martin throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Otto works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Otto thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Otto not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Martin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Martin trying to control the position from guard on top but Otto is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Martin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Otto swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Martin is stalling in the full guard.
Otto avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Otto throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A solid leg kick lands there for Martin.
Martin tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Martin shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Martin throwing shots but Otto is blocking nicely.

Otto looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Martin in particular looking to stall.

Martin is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Otto doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Martin.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Martin is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Otto is trying to get back to full guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Martin is trying to work for a kimura but Otto is defending well.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Otto wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Martin looks gassed!
Otto throws a sloppy head kick and Martin moves out of range easily.
Otto lands with a thumping leg kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Otto with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Otto fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Martin misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
The fighters circle momentarily. Otto darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Martin gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Otto.
Otto tries a head kick but it misses.
Otto bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Martin's head.


It looks like James Martin has been cut.
Otto fakes the leg kick and cracks Martin in the body.
Otto bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Otto connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Martin tumbling to the canvas! Otto pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Martin was done - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Jay Otto!
