The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Griffey Jr drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Griffey Jr drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Griffey Jr jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Griffey Jr passes Jakes's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Griffey Jr is trying to work for a kimura but Jakes is defending well.
Griffey Jr moves into full mount! Jakes won't be happy about that!
Griffey Jr connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jakes looks gassed!
Jakes keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Griffey Jr cracks Jakes with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Jakes is still in real trouble! Can Griffey Jr finish him?

Griffey Jr lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.

Griffey Jr is working for a rear naked choke. Jakes is not defending it well and Griffey Jr has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Jakes refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Jakes's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
