Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Silva! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Rios! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Thiago Cunha and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Silva looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Silva has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Rios tries to land a sweep but no joy. Rios is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Rios is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rios looking for a guillotine here but Silva defends easily.
Rios looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Rios is trying to control the position from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva sitting in guard, not really doing much. Silva wants to get up but he can't break Rios's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Rios controls Silva momentarily but Silva frees himself. Rios throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Rios looks gassed! Silva tries to stand but Rios is controlling from the bottom. Rios keeping full guard, as Silva tries to pass. Silva wanted to stand there but Rios had control of the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Silva stands up from Rios's guard - Silva perhaps looking for a knockout. Marcelo Rios seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rios scores a takedown into full mount! Rios moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Silva has worked his arm free - good work by Silva!
Rios goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Silva has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Rios but great work by Silva. Silva stands up. Rios takes one on the button.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Silva instigates a clinch. Silva has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Rios is trying to keep an underhook but Silva manages to get the takedown into half guard. Rios tries to roll over but Silva keeps him under control. It looks like Silva is going to stand back up.
Silva trying to control from half guard but Rios is working away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Silva prevents Rios from improving his position. Rios looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Rios wants to get back to full guard but Silva has passed into side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Silva lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Rios is in a horrible position here. Silva smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Silva gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks! Rios drives through with a takedown into guard. Rios drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Silva dives on top into guard. Silva in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Rios has a closed guard, preventing Silva from standing up. Silva is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Rios has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Silva is looking to defend but Rios has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Silva! Rios pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Silva taps out and this one is all over!
