Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Danny Knighton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Roberts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Danny Knighton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jim Roberts!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Eddie Farnsworth and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roberts fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Knighton swats away the attempt to clinch by Roberts.
Roberts shoots for a double leg takedown but Knighton sprawls well. He's pushed Roberts's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Roberts shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Knighton as he avoids it easily.
Danny Knighton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim Roberts.
Roberts shoots in looking for a takedown. Knighton tries to sprawl out of it but Roberts keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Knighton manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Knighton uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Roberts.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Knighton fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Jim Roberts seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Roberts leaves Knighton with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Roberts wants to clinch up but Knighton keeps it at a distance.
Knighton stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Knighton wants it to stay on the feet.

Knighton shoots in looking for a takedown. Roberts tries to sprawl out of it but Knighton keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Roberts manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Knighton thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Knighton is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

and Knighton counters with a single leg into guard. Roberts didn't expect that.

Knighton drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Knighton jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Knighton has gone for a leg lock! Roberts slips out almost immediately though and dives into Knighton's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Roberts would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Roberts is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Knighton looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Roberts wants to control from the top but Knighton keeps moving.
Roberts throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Knighton is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Roberts throws and elbow that misses. Knighton uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Roberts's guard. Nice move by Knighton!

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Roberts smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Roberts is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Knighton not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Roberts trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Knighton fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Roberts sprawls well initially but Knighton persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Knighton looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Danny Knighton overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Roberts tries to get to full guard but Knighton has control of the leg.
Knighton seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Jim Roberts has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well Knighton has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
