Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fresenius James! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Jones! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, David Schapiro and Alyssa Summers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! James punishes Jones's body with a nice straight punch. James misses with a body shot.
A punch combination from James misses. Jones slips a jab from James. Jones fails with a takedown attempt. James looks to land a combination but Jones avoids it well. James looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Jones takes a shot right to the bread basket. James keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. James throws a series of punches but Jones moves out of range. Some wild striking there from James.
James moves into range and connects with a jab. Jones walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
That's one minute gone in the round. James throws an overhand right that lands on Jones's shoulder, as Jones tries to avoid the shot. James throws a good cross that connects.
Fresenius James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. James scores with a nice right hand.

Jones takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Jones slips under a jab. Jones shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Jones was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! James wants to hold on but Jones pushes him away. James really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Right on cue, Jones cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

That was a close round but I would say that Fresenius James will probably get the nod. That's time! James's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Jones drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jones scoring with punches from side control. James tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jones wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. James is working hard here to advance position. James wants to control but Jones postures up. James is trying to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down James's shoulder. That is not cool. James tries to buck Jones off but Jones is having none of it.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. James with a hook. A looping hook to the body misses from James. Jones does a little dance to reset his feet. James throws out a token jab with nothing on it. James lands with a nice body punch. A big left from James misses. James takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Jones blocks a jab. James scores with a nice head shot. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jones. James connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

The fighters circling - James throws out the jab but it was never going to land. James catches Jones with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Jones feints and as James raises his hands in defense, Jones changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. James tries to land a sweep but no joy. Jones postures up and lands a big shot to James's brow. James is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Jones's corner is telling him to maintain position. Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. James swivels though and keeps the full guard. James keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully. Jones missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. James looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Jones drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jones jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Jones is breathing heavily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but James is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. James cracks a nice hook into Jones's ribs. James throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. James displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. James moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Jones uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from James. James scores with a jab to the body. James throws a looping overhand right but Jones ducks down to avoid it. Jones dodges the punch combination from James.
James throws a right and a left that both miss. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Fresenius James will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
Jones moves away from the strike by James. A telegraphed right hand from James misses the target. Jones moves out of range of the strikes. James thuds his right hand into Jones's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Jones moves away from the strike by James. Jones ducks under a wild hook from James. Jones slips a straight right by James. Jones ducks under a wild hook from James. James stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jones showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from James.
James ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Jones shoots in looking for a takedown. James tries to sprawl out of it but Jones keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. James manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. James misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Jones.
That's one minute gone in the round. James connects with a crisp jab. Jones has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye. Jones fails with a takedown attempt. James misses with a two punch combination.

Jones misses with a takedown attempt - James sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Fresenius James has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Jones. Jones uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by James.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Nice uppercut there from James. James just misses with a punch to the body.

James slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

James throws a jab when Jones was well out of range. Fresenius James is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. James misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Jones.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. James throws a right and a left that both miss. James throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Chris Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! James throws a nice looking combination but Jones bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
And that's the end of the fight! Fresenius James showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for James, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
