Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kurt Wrangle! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johnny Hawkins! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Bruno Lombardi and Alyssa Summers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hawkins doesn't manage to clinch there - Wrangle circles away.
Wrangle shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Wrangle pushing down on Hawkins's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Wrangle is nestled in close to Hawkins, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Still in half guard, Wrangle seems content to control. Wrangle landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
It looks like Johnny Hawkins has been cut. Wrangle controlling the action here. Wrangle trying to mount his opponent but Hawkins defends it. Nice strikes from Wrangle there. Wrangle wants to control but Hawkins is keeping him busy. Wrangle lands with a punch from half guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Wrangle is figuring out what he wants to do next. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hawkins looks gassed! Hawkins tries to get to full guard but Wrangle has control of the leg. Wrangle controlling the action here. Hawkins really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wrangle. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wrangle's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Wrangle slips a nice elbow through Hawkins's hands, connecting with Hawkins's forehead. Wrangle sitting and controlling from the half guard. Wrangle lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Wrangle is working for a submission of some sort.
Wrangle moves into full mount! Hawkins won't be happy about that!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wrangle trying to control but he's not successful this time. Hawkins takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
That has opened up Johnny Hawkins's cut even more. Wrangle has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Wrangle wants to control the pace but Hawkins is squirming around nicely. Wrangle is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Hawkins can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Wrangle tries to control but Hawkins wriggling away. Wrangle is working for a guillotine from mount but Hawkins frees his head quite easily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Hawkins takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Wrangle's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
