Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between John Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Kaplan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kaplan is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Tenderness by General Public. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Williams! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dave Kaplan! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, John Kavanagh and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kaplan scoring well with a low kick there.
A big right from Kaplan misses. Williams swings for the body but Kaplan moves out of range.
Kaplan connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Williams scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Sloppy strikes there by Williams. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kaplan avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Williams. Williams grinds an elbow into Kaplan's temple. Kaplan prevents Williams from moving into mount. Williams advances nicely into full mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Williams swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Kaplan is now in Williams's guard. A big mistake from Williams there, giving up the dominant position! Kaplan is looking to stand up but Williams won't let him. Williams has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Kaplan gets to his feet - Williams follows without any prompting. Excellent takedown into side control there by Williams. Williams wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kaplan keeps working.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Williams wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kaplan, who protects the arm well. Williams prevents Kaplan from escaping the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Williams is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kaplan knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Williams tries for a kimura but Kaplan is defending well. Williams is breathing heavily. Kaplan is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Williams tries to advance position but instead Kaplan slips a leg back in to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Williams frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Williams jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Kaplan is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Kaplan and Williams has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Williams tries to move to full mount but Kaplan actually manages to regain half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Williams lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. No luck with that takedown attempt from Williams. Williams swings and misses with a hook to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Williams lands with a hook. Kaplan tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Kaplan jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Kaplan throws a low kick but it's checked well by Williams. Kaplan lands a glancing blow to the side of Williams's head. Kaplan swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Kaplan moves out of range of the strikes. Williams gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Kaplan. Kaplan throws a sloppy head kick and Williams moves out of range easily. Williams throws a right and a left that Kaplan avoids nicely. Kaplan looks to land a right hand but Williams moved out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Kaplan uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Williams. Williams lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Williams tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kaplan was well out of range. Poor timing from Williams. Nice takedown defense from Kaplan. No joy for Williams on that attempt. Kaplan keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Williams lands an overhand right. Kaplan tries a low kick but Williams avoids it. Williams takes a swing at Kaplan's ribcage but misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kaplan defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Williams. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Williams. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kaplan stuffs the takedown. Williams connects with a right hand. Kaplan shakes it off. Kaplan scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. A telegraphed right hand from Kaplan misses the target. A big right from Kaplan misses. Williams checks the leg kick. Kaplan throws the left hand but Williams avoids the punch easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Williams shoots in for a takedown but Kaplan shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Kaplan throws a quick inside leg kick. Williams swings for the body but Kaplan moves out of range.
Kaplan misses with a looping left. Williams avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Williams bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Kaplan cracks Williams with a right hand to the side of the head. Williams changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Dave Kaplan will probably get the nod - 10:9. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
Williams misses the shot to the body. Kaplan looks to land a left hand but Williams moved out of range nicely. Kaplan pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Williams lands with an uppercut that bounces Kaplan off the cage and back into rage. A solid leg kick lands there for Kaplan.

That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Williams ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Kaplan leaves Williams with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Williams slips a straight right by Kaplan. Williams takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Kaplan throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Williams sees it coming and avoids it easily. and Kaplan counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Kaplan throws out a leg kick but Williams moves out of range and Kaplan only half commits. Williams throws a combination that misses letting Kaplan counter with a right hand. Kaplan dodges the punch combination from Williams.
Williams has his takedown stuffed and Kaplan connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Williams uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Kaplan.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Kaplan throws a shot from downtown. Williams moves away and avoids it. Williams misses the body punch and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Kaplan throws a nice outside leg kick. A big right from Williams misses. Kaplan swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Williams is looking to wear down Kaplan with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Kaplan throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Williams staying out of range there. Williams swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Kaplan counters with a lovely straight right hand!
And that's the end of the fight! Dave Kaplan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Kaplan has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
