Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Vince Mimsy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Irvin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Vince Mimsy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Irvin !
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Donatello Bradman and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mimsy throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Mimsy looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Mimsy not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Mimsy looking to sit in guard and control but Irvin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mimsy holds on and takes a little breather.
Mimsy is trying to keep Irvin in close.
Irvin has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mimsy is proving hard to escape from.

Mimsy is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Mimsy looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Irvin passes into side control.
Mimsy is trying to control Irvin 's posture but Irvin avoids it.
Mimsy is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Irvin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mimsy keeps working.
Mimsy wants to improve his position but Irvin is controlling well.
Mimsy trying to control but Irvin postures up.
Mimsy keeping hold of Irvin 's head, controlling as best he can.
Mimsy is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Irvin jumps into side control!

Irvin tries to stand but Mimsy is controlling his head.
Mimsy has one of Irvin 's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.

Irvin has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Irvin thumps Mimsy with a low kick.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
A telegraphed right hand from Mimsy misses the target.
Mimsy misses with an uppercut. Irvin saw that one coming.
Good work by Mimsy as he checks the leg kick.
A looping hook to the body misses from Mimsy. Irvin does a little dance to reset his feet.
Mimsy swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mimsy shoots in for a double leg but Irvin sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Irvin displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Mimsy throws out the jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Vince Mimsy will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Mimsy misses the shot to the body.
Mimsy misses with a looping left.
Irvin throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Steve Irvin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Irvin gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Mimsy trying to control but Irvin is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mimsy trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Irvin manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Irvin wanted to stand there but Mimsy had control of the position.

Mimsy has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Irvin is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Mimsy.

Mimsy is trying to get back to half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mimsy is trying to work for a sweep but Irvin has mounted him!
Mimsy tries to lock up and control but Irvin gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Mimsy is desperately trying to improve his position but Irvin has a good base and remains in mount.
Mimsy throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Mimsy tries to hold on but Irvin pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mimsy sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Mimsy is trying to maintain the position but Irvin is very close to passing his half guard.

Mimsy looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Irvin wants to stand up but Mimsy has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Mimsy wants to get back to full guard.
Irvin is thwarting Mimsy's attempts to control the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Irvin prevents Mimsy from improving his position.

Mimsy is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Irvin pulls his head out easily.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Mimsy bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Irvin 's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vince Mimsy dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Irvin rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mimsy moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Mimsy closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Irvin manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Irvin tries to stand and escape but Mimsy is controlling the position.
Mimsy tries to roll over but Irvin keeps him under control.
Mimsy has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Irvin is working away from the top position though.
Mimsy is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Irvin wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Mimsy uses the opportunity to regain full guard.
Irvin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Mimsy has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Irvin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Mimsy throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

Mimsy throws his legs up looking for a submission but Irvin uses it to pass to side control.
Mimsy trying to remain calm as Irvin controls from the top position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mimsy tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Irvin easily slips into full mount!

Irvin is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Mimsy shoots in for a takedown but Irvin shows good takedown defense.
Good work by Mimsy as he checks the leg kick.
Irvin throws a series of punches but Mimsy moves out of range.

A looping hook to the body misses from Mimsy. Irvin does a little dance to reset his feet.
Irvin lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Irvin pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Vince Mimsy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Irvin misses with a jab, cross combination.
Irvin defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mimsy.
Irvin misses with a double jab.

Mimsy decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Mimsy trying to advance position but Irvin counters by regaining guard.
Mimsy wants to control from the top but Irvin keeps moving.
Irvin keeping full guard, as Mimsy tries to pass.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mimsy looking to sit in guard and control but Irvin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Mimsy looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Vince Mimsy.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mimsy, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
