The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Liddell tries to clinch up.
Liddell's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Liddell duly obliges.
Mesnar is looking to clinch.
Liddell shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mesnar pinned against the cage. Mesnar gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Liddell looks to land a combination but Mesnar avoids it well.
Good work by Mesnar as he checks the leg kick.

Mesnar wants to clinch.
Mesnar is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Mesnar changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Liddell tries to avoid it but Mesnar manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Liddell to the ground. Liddell escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Liddell looks to land a combination but Mesnar avoids it well.

Liddell takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

It looks like Shane Liddell has been cut.

Mesnar shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mesnar seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Liddell does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Mesnar drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mesnar jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Mesnar has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The fight stays on the outside here - Mesnar looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Liddell lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mesnar lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Liddell!
