PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hercule Poirot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and The Man (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Poirot comes into the arena with Poirot Theme blaring out of the sound system. The Man is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hercule Poirot! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, The Man! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Jorge Garcia and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Man avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Poirot throws a head kick but Man moves out of range.
Man throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Poirot. Man lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Poirot circles away quickly and effectively. Man loads up on a big right hand but Poirot slips the punch. Poirot buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
A combination from Man does no damage. Poirot lands a head kick that stumbles Man and the fighters go to the mat.
It looks like The Man has been cut. Poirot stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Man swivels though and keeps the full guard. Poirot looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Poirot won't allow Man to sweep him here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Man looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Poirot has picked Man up and slammed him! Man can't keep hold of the triangle and Poirot manages to pass to side control! Poirot is looking to take a break and control but Man is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Poirot tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Poirot slows the pace down. Poirot advances nicely into full mount. Man is squirming around, avoiding Poirot's attempts to control the action. Poirot is trying to take his opponent's back.
Poirot forces the positional change into back control. Poirot tries to get the hooks in deep but Man pushed the leg off. Poirot working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Man is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Poirot has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Man taps out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Hercule Poirot!
