Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Demian Almeida! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shinya Kawajiri! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Almeida fails with an attempt to clinch.
Kawajiri shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Almeida escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kawajiri gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Almeida had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kawajiri defends it easily. Almeida throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
That's one minute gone in the round. Almeida is working an open guard so Kawajiri takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Kawajiri gets the takedown into side control. Kawajiri decides to take the fight back to the feet. Almeida wants to clinch. Kawajiri shoots in for a takedown but Almeida shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kawajiri closes the distance and clinches up with Almeida, looking for a takedown. Kawajiri pushes Almeida against the cage but Almeida circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Kawajiri will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Demian Almeida has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shinya Kawajiri. Kawajiri shoots in but no luck this time. Kawajiri misses with a takedown attempt - Almeida sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Almeida throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Kawajiri looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Almeida puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Almeida seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kawajiri can do anything to dispel that myth. Almeida blocks the strikes from Kawajiri.

Kawajiri isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Almeida stacks Kawajiri on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Almeida!
That's three minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Kawajiri's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Almeida prevents Kawajiri from escaping the position. Kawajiri is looking to regain half guard here but Almeida keeps moving and retains side control. Almeida tries for a kimura but Kawajiri is defending well. Kawajiri is pushing Almeida's head away, looking to escape. Almeida manages to hold on to the position though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Almeida stands up. Kawajiri avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Almeida darts in trying to clinch and Kawajiri counters with a nice double leg into side control. Almeida won't be happy with that.
And that's the end of the fight! Demian Almeida showed his dominance in that final round. Well Almeida has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
